So lets talk about how I would have failed that competition... or not.

I actually got the problem right grins but I sat there with my calculator... 1+4+9+16+25 and so on.

Continuing this as the INTRODUCTION thread, who wants some more "get to know you" questions?

Pets?
Last thing you ate?
Favorite place to study?

I have 3 cats (Poco, domestic long hair, black and white, who is my cat; Dozy, domestic short hair, brownish, who is my dad's cat; and Ziti, Maine Coon tabby cat, who adores who ever is giving her food at the moment) and 1 dog (Mojo, who is a lovely 13 year old Collie) and a bunch of goldfish in the backyard. Cept for the fish, they're all from the pound.

I ate an apple last.

My friend has this huge flat rock that sticks out next to a river in her backyard and I love to go sit on it and study and stick my feet in the river. When I'm not lucky enough to be over at her house, I usually study on the floor in the hallway, because the light is really bright in there.

I dont have any pets, except for my lil' sister
What was the last thing i ate? Hm.....goood question.....i dont remember :)...I wish it were pizza though.....:)

I don't like to study, but i do like to learn :)
However, if it comes down to actual studying, i prefer my bed. It's very convinient, and i can zzzzzzz right away (without getting up)....which i do aaaaall the time :)

I think we can't get to it because we're not alumni yet... but in less than 3 monthes we will be alumni!!!

Maybe if you find an alumni who will tell you his or her password and stuff you could get to the page. I think it's protected by a password because it has the names and contact information of people who don't want that information available online to the world, just to their SSP friends.

I wanna build a really cheap IR telescope after i get back from SSP..it was my original plan for the summer, but then i got off the waitlist (but i dont regret it :) )

I'm going to teach at little kids dance camps for most of the summer (that is, when I'm not in Socorro) just volunteering, because its fun and it looks good for college (I have like... almost 200 hours of volunteering at dance camps over the past three summers) and because I have a real teaching job next year (and its really nice because basically I get paid two or three times what most of my friends are getting, and all I have to do is dance around and teach ballet to five year olds compared to flipping burgers or selling coffee or filing papers.)

I'm also probably going to do a college visiting roadtrip up to NYC and Boston with my dad.

So my next question is...

If you could visit 5 colleges in or near DC, NYC, and Boston, which 5 would you pick and why?

Shadowdancer, that's a REALLY nice way to spend the rest of the summer

in my opinion, the top 5 are:
MIT
Harvard (though i'm not applying there)
Columbia (decent science, math, and a posibility of getting astrophysics degree, plus my cuz goes there)
NYU (one of top math (and business) schools in nation, and my another cuz goes there)
Stony Brook (probably the best cheapest best cheapest best cheapest best cheapest science/math school in the US)

I visited Johns Hopkins last year around Thanksgiving, and I really liked it.

I think my list, for right now at least, is:
MIT, because its an AMAZING school
Harvard, because my aunt teaches there
Cooper Union, because the whole financial thing, and great location too
Columbia, again, great location, and just a fantastic school in general
Boston University, also seems like a great school, and its less competitive to get into

and no worries, J M Pham, about me applying to SSP for prestige... I didn't find out about how prestigious the program was until I got my acceptance letter and started searching the internet to find out more about it! I had seen the website of course, but lots of programs make themselves out to be more than they are, so, while I thought it looked like a really great program and decided to apply, I thought it was just a regionally affiliated program, not a program that attracts students from all over the country/world. I hadn't ever even heard of programs like RSI and TASP and stuff until I found that old thread about SSP acceptances.

and for the countdown.... I hope this link works... I set it to countdown until 2pm New Mexico time, because thats when all the people who are flying are supposed to arrive by

surge, read post 63. And btw...I've seen you on AoPs before.

Sweet! Now we have a timeframe to go by! I forgot that most of us (except Ahra) will be seeing each other for the first time at the airport! What an experience that'll be...

shadowdancer, I understand. It's just that I'm incredibly annoyed by opportunistic kids who apply to programs solely based on their prestige. I really don't get these kids that apply to both RSI and TASP...like two unrelated programs...I believe that you should do things that you have a genuine passion for.

Actually...CC's really not the best place to be talking about passion or whatever. After all, the purpose of this website is to get us into college...however superficial of a purpose that may be.
