well i got my packet and i will be going to socorro.
hey how many suitcases are you guys bringing?

50000000 cases

lol jk. I would die if I bought that many.

I'll probably bring like 2 at most.

By the way, who received financial aid and how much??
I'm just curious cause I want some money!!! lol

Heh, "lucky charms" is a necessity. No it's not. Frosted flakes, however... JK. :-P

Who here has booked their flights to Ojai already? For all the people that are fretting over the trip, we might at least be able to meet up at LAX. Although LAX is enormous...

Tarantulas? Now pulling from my diverse knowledge of biology (and wikipedia), don't pepsis wasps prey on tarantulas in the west coast? The same wasp which has a sting rated "like dropping a running hair drier in a bathtub." Hmm. (See, now I'm just being mean.) :-)

I'm just wondering... Can a single suitcase and a backpack fit everything we need? Packing that dress clothes is going to be a pain, especially since I don't know how to iron.

All I brought was a standard suitcase, a medium sized duffel bag, and a totebag (carryon). In my suitcase, I actually brought all of my own linens (except a pillow), a tennis racquet, loads of books, and well um... personal hygiene stuff that took up a lot of room. It's definately possible to fit everything. Pack dress clothes into the front flap of your suitcase.. like in that mesh pouch designed for that purpose.

omg i'll definitely need a lot more than that. shoot.

I'm serious, you'll be surprised what you can fit in a suitcase.

Oh no.

I went on a yg trip for three days and i filled a suitcase and a duffel bag and i still had to take my own pillow and sleeping bag.

hey does socorro have a nice basketball facility? DO we get time to play stuff like b-ball etc? I don't think i could surive not playing basketball for 6 weeks.

i'm hoping that new mexico tech has some athletic facilities lol. from the school's website, it seems like it though. but....i hope we have the time to enjoy them in the first place lol.

Got me visa!!! Nothing stands in the way now. Ojai, here I come. dramatic determined look.

I was gonna say something but I forgot. What a thoroughly lame sentence this is.

lethal_teapot, where are you from, since you need a visa?
sorry if you said it before, I tend to forget a lot of things:P

I'm Indian (the real type, not the native american type). Are there many Indians in Romania, which I think is where you're from, Jules? Indians seem to be everywhere...

Speaking of ethnicities, have you noticed how few thoroughbred americans are attending this program? Not that I'm discriminating or anything, it was just something I was surprised to notice. I mean I'm just looking at the 20 people in the Ojai group now...9 seem to have names of East-Asian ethnicity, 5 of the...let's call it the subcontinent ethnicity (India/Pakistan etc...although Saleh is a muslim name so it could be from the middle-east)...then there's one from Canada, one from Romania...that just leaves 4 who are (apparently) thoroughbred American...is it like this everywhere in the science/math institutions in the US, or something?

I haven't seen many indians in Romania. or maybe there are, but I can't tell. There aren't many people of other nationalities that come to Romania. Maybe only chineese... and europeans that come for bussiness. but that's about it.

regarding your observation, I was looking at US teams for different olympiads and most of the people there were asian or indian or had some european last name...

Well, asians are very competitive in the scientific and matematcis field.

I didn't get any financial aid =/

Last year it wasn't very.. asian-ated.
Thinks- 5 asian girls, 5.5 asian guys?, including all the internationals.
That's not counting people from Turkey as asian (they're mediterranean right?)
