I'm curious who's applying to this program this year? Is it very hard to get accepted? If you've participated in the previous years, can you please share your experience?

lacgirl, just wanted to say that most students spoke with professors in January, and were notified of their selection/acceptance before Spring Break (mid-March). They've begun a page on "Willipedia" listing their names and positions for the coming summer: Summer 2008 - Willipedia

I think she means the summer science program for prefrosh? I think it depends on the year, some years are more competitive than others. Students who are first generation gets first pick and after that it's pretty random who gets in.. or so i heard.. i'm a prefrosh and probably will apply too.

lacgirl08,

Summer Science ( and it's sister program for humanities students, SHSS) is not a competition. there is no 'tough' thing about being selected. Students are chosen who might not have received the benefits of a top-notch private school secondary education. With that said, Summer Science students are very smart and work very hard, taking courses ( Bio 101, Calc III, Chem etc. ) that they will have to take during the academic year. The important takeaway here is that SS students are chosen on the grounds of academic background, with minorities and first-generation students taking up 20-21 of the 22 or so spots. Students are sent invites according to academic interest as reported on submitted applications.

For humanities pre-frosh, SHSS (Summer Humanities & Social Sciences) is the alternative, but works the same way. The school does not like to make known the existence of these programs outside of the target demographic.

**onemoremom, SS students have not been selected as of yet. TA's have been selected, however.

if anyone has questions about SHSS, drop me a pm

"stupidme" and "rl.hill": sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the clarification. I was thinking of the Summer Science Research program for rising sophomores through seniors -- similar name, but different program altogether. My apologies.
