Summer Semester

I'm strongly considering staying in Manhattan for the summer since all the best and best-paying internships are in the area. I was wondering, for those who may have experience in this:

a) How much does housing alone cost in the summer time? How is it done? Can we keep our current room or do we absolutely have to shuffle?

b) Are many core courses (Music Hum, CC, Global Core) offered in the summer time?

Cheers,

a)Housing is insanely expensive to stay at Columbia. When I checked 2 summers ago it was over 4000$ and it’s probably gone up since then. Your best bet is to find a group of people to sublet an apartment with. That would at least cut the cost to 2000-3000 for the summer.

b) You’re a student, I’m sure you know how to use the directory of classes. Summer 2008 is still up. [CU Directory of Classes](http://www.columbia.edu/cu/bulletin/uwb/)

Correction:

Might be wrong about the housing price. [Housing : Continuing Students 2009](http://www.columbia.edu/cu/housing/docs/summer-residents/continuing-students.html#periods-rates)

Note that you are third in the selection priority tho if you’re working off campus and not taking classes.

So about $1100 for the interims +2-3 Gs more depending on where you live.

Still pretty pricey. I heard NYU had good housing for summer interns and it’s probably closer to where you’re interning.
