Summer Seminar 2005!

me, im the only one who's heard of it, is it competitive to get into?

24 days for all session 1 participants!!!

oops i mean session 2!!!

Well,

According to the numbers and notoriety of the academies, it's not as competitive as the others (with the exception of maybe Coast Guard). However, my visit certainly told me that studying there is no cake walk- those plebes are miserable! They do a sea year, which means 4 years of college are scrunched into 3, which undoubtedly is stress inducing. Also, there is a good quantity of incompentent professors, as they tell it.

I'm going to USMMA this year...and I am the only person who has heard of it in most of my area. Its going to suck....but sea year makes it worth it from what I hear. Plus you can go into any branch of the military or work as a civilian....and they pay is very nice because sea year is great on the job experience. Its going to suck, but be completely worth it at the same time.

OH NOOOOO

the seminar starts in june 4th!!!

i go to session 1

i am SOO OUT OF SHAPE.
FAT!

and havent exercised since February (swim season ended)

am i screwed there????
(i can run miles pretty fast. just can't do push ups. i can do probably 25 max)

You'll be okay.

..god speed

oh no oh no. At practice today I severely messed up my ankle. my chances of making it to ss are looking slim.

My son is in Session 1. Have any of you heard if they will take the Strong Interest inventory then? It was taken off of my sons list on the application and yet his BGO just emailed him and told him to complete the Strong Interest inventory. Any suggestions?

and to dizzielizzie14, hopefully it isn't too bad. Have faith.

Are we allowed to bring a digital camera?
(for afterwards and before training//free time//etc.)

Ya... you can have a camera....from STL? me 2....go CARDS

where are u from, flynavy?

i mean, what School u go to.

Just graduated from Kirkwood HS...U?

eureka high. i'm gonna be a senior

Can someone who has been to the summer seminar tell us what we need to bring, BESIDES the stuff that is "requied"

i.e. suggestions

chanman~my son took all that was noted and was fine with the exception of the fact that you need dress shorts (shorts with pockets and belt) most of the time. He had purchased a number of sport type shorts and he could only wear those for PE etc. He even called a friend that was going session 2 to tell them to bring more than one pair. Don't forget your bathing suit either, it was left off the list last year and not everyone got the last minute email! He didn't bring a camera and there are times when you could use one. His squad leader had one and took several pictures that he later emailed him. USNA pretty much provides the rest other than the list. Bring some cash if you want to buy things in the mid store which are cheaper than the gift stores later. Have fun...it was one of his best high school experiences and even though he isn't going in June it is a very fond memory. He says he wishes he could do it again! Enjoy :-)

The website indicates checkin time for June 4 seminar is between 11:00 and 4:30. Is there any reason to arrive early? Also, is there anything planned for parents?

i am SOOO worried about USNA that I won't be able to do the physical training.

because i am SOOO out of shape.
i'm a swimmer and XC runner...and the seasons are off, so i'm all fat and stuff lol

the thing is...they MAKE you do 60 push ups and stuff...what if I can only do 25-30..what happens?? ..I just stop?? Is MOST ppl who go to USNASS able to complete the exercises?

i wouldnt worry about it too much. if you are able to take swim practices and cross country practices the runs will be cake. you do alot of pushups so i would practice those, but i bet you will find that you can do more than you think. seeing the other people around you doing the exercises with you is motivating because you don't want to be the first one to drop. i wouldnt worry about it too much, but definately start running and practicing pushups.
