Summer Seminar and Admissions

I have received acceptance to the summer seminar and will be attending. Also, my PCQ has been already improved. Are either of these things much of an accomplishment?

Do most SS kids gain admission to the Academy?

I attended the USAFA Summer Seminar in 2005 and am now trying to obtain an appointment.

When I attended the summer seminar, academy officials stated that attending improved your chances of gaining admittance to the academy but does not guarantee anything. Keep in mind that upon completion of the summer seminar an evaluation form is placed in your candidate file. The form is filled out by the cadet who is more or less in charge of you during your week at USAFA. So, get on your cadets good side ASAP so you can insure a positive review.

Start reading about the nomination process as well. The nomination process is a bear to complete. The sooner you become aquainted with the process and learn the deadlines the better.

I attended Summer Seminar and received an appointment. In my element (B-5!!!) as far as I know everyone has received an appointment. They say that in many ways it is harder to get into Summer Seminar than the actual Academy, although I'm not sure if that is 100% right. They did tell us in the SS admissions breifing. Just keep working hard, and you will be good to go.

One thing... your summer seminar element leader fills out an evaluation that goes in your admissions file. I think that's the only summer seminar thing that gets considered, and I bet it usually helps people.

That's right, B-5 is the best! Soccer1458, have you heard from Dan of Mike as to their status?

Actually, our element(B-5) has officially 10/12 people admitted because no one has talked to the other 2 to confirm their status.

WOOT! B-5! I love you guys! Soccer1458 was the best roommate ever!

why do people say thats it is harder to get accepted into the seminar than the actual academy?

Less total accepted.

I didn't apply for any summer seminar and I was admitted to USNA. It's not mandatory, but I do suggest you attend if you can.

It might be wise to say don't pass up going to Summer Seminar unless you can substitute something that would strenghthen your application even more. Keep hammering away at that application full time.

I went to Summer Sci in 2005. B-4!!!! Umm.. so yeah it can help. It wouldn't hurt.

And if I can remember correctly.. during orientation on 10 April, Colonel Carpenter said that a lot of the appointees were Summer Sci people.

RTBdad is right on the money. Summer seminar is about the best thing you can have on your application.

Being accepted into summer sem. means that your grades, test scores, and extra-curriculars look good to the academy. I think they said that 50% of summer sem. people attend the academy. (Some go to the other academies, so I wonder how many will end up at an academy.)

Summer Seminar is a great experience. "Doolie for a day" is also very beneficial (assuming it is anything remotely near BCT)

Go C-7! RTB!
