Hi everyone!
I applied to the AFA summer seminar on January 1, 2008. Today, I recieved an e-mail telling me to call the sender if I was still interested in attending the Summer Seminar Program.(He is LTC USAF) The phone number had my local area code. I was just wondering if anyone knows what this means. Is it good? Is it bad? Am I going to be interviewed over the phone? I’ll definitely call. I really want to attend. I was just trying to figure out what I should expect. Also, does anyone know when we’ll find out if we’re accepted into SS?

Well, I was interviewed in person by my ALO, but I've heard of others who were interviewed over the phone. That's what it sounds like, but don't automatically assume it is an interview...wait for them to say it is. Good luck.

To go to SS you have to be interviewed by your local Academy Liaison Officer (ALO). He or she will help you through the entire admissions process and answer any questions you may have. After I applied to SS last year, my ALO contacted me and we arranged a meeting at my house. He talked to my parents and I about the Academy in general and what they have to offer, and then interviewed me for about 30 minutes or so. As far as I can tell the purpose is twofold: To let you know the facts about USAFA and to make sure you're not just trying to go on a weeklong vacation in Colorado Springs (i.e. make sure you're actually considering USAFA/USAF).

Feel free to correct my mistakes here.

[edit: Interview may not be mandatory, I thought it was.]

Sounds like this is the ALO for your region - a phone interview is part of the application process (at least in Pa it was). Make sure you are familiar with the Academy, the honor code etc, and expect to answer questions like why you want to attend the Air Force Academy. After summer seminar if you continue the application process you'll have a formal interview. Dress appropriately - appearance counts.

My first interview was over the phone as well. Like others have mentioned, be prepared in case it does turn into an interview. Think about your answers to certain questions beforehand (such as why you want to attend), and when speaking to the Colonel, be confident in what you say. Stay relaxed and try to have some fun with it -
it sounds to me like a Summer Seminar slot is probably headed your way. Best of luck!

I was accepted into summer seminar and I did not have any contact with my ALO. I had an interview during the regular application process only because I was persistent about having one.

The last time my S spoke to his ALO they spoke about the importance of the interview, but she added that "this year" she would "also be interviewing for summer seminar...." It sounded like this was a new procedure.
