Hey! I’m going to the USAFA Summer Seminar and I’m really excited! I’m trying to get in good shape so I’ve been running every day but I need to work on upper body strength. Does anyone have suggestions on how to build up the strength for pullups? I’m hoping that when they do the Fitness Test I’ll be able to at least do 1. Thanks :)

where I lift at they have this machine where you do the pull-up motion but weights push up in turn actually helping you to do a full pull-up without lifting all of your body weight.....i don't know if that made sense but at least i tried.

Another good way to build strength in these muscles is to start doing "negative" pullups. Use a ladder or stool to start with you chin above the bar, then fight gravity and slowly lower yourself down until you're hanging. Let me see if I can dig up a website about this - I remember a good one.

Here it is: http://www.military.com/NewContent/0,13190,Smith_033004,00.html. The author, Stew Smith, has written numerous books and articles on physical fitness and preparation for military fitness tests. He's a USNA grad and a former Navy SEAL, so he's knows what he's talking about.

yeah PetKo thats good, also if you do the lat pulldown exercise that helps too

Thanks that helps a lot!
