To anyone who has gone to summer seminar:
Could you please post the SAT/PSAT scores you used to apply for SS? I’d like to know if I’m competitive.
Also, what else (transcripts, recommendations, essay, etc) is a part of the SS application?

Dd was accepted to SS with a 196 PSAT and a 1380 SAT (old). She was also accepted to AIM and NASS with those scores. The AFA's was all online as I recall and she heard back in less than 2 hours. Navy took a bit longer (17 days I think) and AIM took forevvvvverrrrrr.

202 PSAT

I know a lot of people got in with significantly lower scores.

Prepare a resume and a brief statement about your desire to attend USAFA.

I got in with a 191 on the PSAT. The application was fairly easy if I remember correctly. You write an essay about why you want to go and talk about your atheltic and academic acheivements. Summer Seminar was really fun, so good luck getting in! It gives you a good look at the what the Academy is like.

Agreed Here...If your considering the academy, make it your top priority.

It was deffinitely a good expierence. My ALO said that admissions looks highly upon Summer Seminar. I had a 200 PSAT and a 1440 SAT. After they had my information, I recieved a call from my liason officer and he talked to me on the phone for like 2 hours the next day.

I know someone near me who had an 1120 SAT but also had pretty substantial athletics, extracarriculars(sp), and leadership possitions and got into SS.

Never got to go to SS, really wanted to. My ALO said though that not getting into SS doesnt nessicarly mean you wont get into the academy. It looks good, but not having it wont hurt you. Although...here i am a year later going to a community college starting the application process over...

what were your grades and stats like. Usually to be accepted at summer seminar, you have to be standout in one thing. My ec's and scores were alright but I was number 3 in a super competative class of 100. I think thats why I was accepted

In one of the briefings over admissions that they gave us during SS, they gave a stat that said something like 50% of the people from SS will inprocess the next year. Thats roughly 400(there were about 400 in each session) people so that means about 800-1000 people get offered appointments that didn't attend SS. Just rough estimates but that's what I took from that briefing, and also that it just depends on the situation if you receive credit for Dual Credit courses/AP tests or not.

Interesting comment from out ALO yesterday. He said that up until this year, ss aaccetptances were based almost entirely on grades and SATs. This past year however, they tried to weigh more heavily on the "whole person" concept--trying for community involvement, etc. This was due to some of the headlines this year...

Thanx all for your answers. Is an ALO interview part of the SS application? Also, does anyone know if you can list which of the two SS sessions you prefer? I already have a commitment conflict with session 2

psat 186; old SAT 1190;GPA 3.9;sports;short essay

Yes, there is the option of requsting a session. Those who get accepted early will easily get their pick..so get your application in right when it's open.

I know some people have had to interview with their ALO, but most didn't. I literally got an acceptance hours after I submitted my application.

a warning for those who attend the summer seminar

unlike the USMA or USNA summer seminar, the AFA summer seminar is more of a tourisy thing.

uSMA and USNA you get up early do PT, (although it's an EXTREMELYW WATERED DOWN verison) etc and go through what some of the cadets do.

at USAFA, you want around, you go to tourist attractions, optional PT etc.

It's a great chance to meet and talk to the cadets and get to know the school and what they offer, but nothing like the academy

have to agree with the last post. would definitely suggest going (it was an awesome experience, got to meet people, realize that most upperclassmen are cool in real life before you go through basic and see their..."other" side), but make sure that you don't think that academy life will be like it. It helped me decide to go here because the people were so awesome, and I'm still friends with some of the people I met there. Good luck!
