has anyone taken a summer class here? if so, anyone know anything a/b them?
p.s.- im not a u of c student

Yes, I took beginning Greek this past summer. You can post specific questions if you wish, or you can PM me. I would be happy to answer any questions as best I can.

are they difficult (in comparison to a reg. year course); is more expected of you than reg. year course? are there things to do? how many students were not students at u of c? when you apply to take the class...is it just for the sake of saying you applied or is it more like a competitve summer program?
thats all i can think of for now...

sorry for all of the questions...but i'm just kind of exploring this idea.

The course I took was very difficult, as it was more than a year condensed into 9 weeks. Most of the students were U. of C. students (mainly grad and some undergrad) though, out of the 25 or so total (though many dropped out), I would say 8 were not from the U. of C (4 highschoolers, 3 grad, 1 undergrad, I believe).

I applied for the course as a high school student, and I believe the acceptance rate is around 75% (not very competitive, though getting through the entire course is the challenge). I am not exactly sure what you mean by the last question, though.

Hope that helped.

I'll be taking Arabic this summer (if I get in). But I'm only doing Level 1 (3 weeks). I know that it is really intense, but how much can I learn in 3 weeks?

AHHH me too jen89 but i'm taking third yr! i'm only doing 3 weeks too!!! it should be good because its 6 hrs of class a day!! Can't wait to see u there! (are u commuting or staying in Max P? i'm commuting)

Basically, three weeks covers a little more than a quarter during the schoolyear - at least it did in the course I took.

I live in NJ so I'm staying. It should be really fun!

fun, fun, chicago is a blast i love it there! (i live 30 min away, so i'll be taking the train in at 7am, half excited, half dreading waking up so early)

summer session was a blast for me. i commuted, but my classmates were wonderful. i took american law and litigation. then again, that's not a college class, that's a specifically high school class.
