What happens if you don't meet the minimum units required by the Financial Aid Office (3rd week?) . Also, is it true that you can drop or withdraw your classes before the last day of the session without getting a transcript notation? Thanks.

If you drop below 12 units, you become a part time student and you won't be elegible for all of your financial aid money and so will have to pay some of it back.

And no, you have until sometime in the middle of the quarter (4th week I think?) to drop the class without a "W" on your transcript. If you drop anytime after that, you get a "W".

what's a w?

means that you Withdrew from the course

If you no longer meet the minimum units required by FAO, you have to go down to the financial aid office in Murphy and fill out a form, and you can expect a bill for the session sometime long after you forgot you ever signed up for the course in the summer. And as long as the class is not impacted, you can drop anytime without any notation whatsoever so long as you drop before the finals (this applies only for the summer, the policy is what icarus said during the regular school year).

"If I drop a class, will a "W" appear on my transcript?

No notation will be made on your transcript if you drop courses or withdraw from Summer Sessions prior to the last day of the session."

-this is from the UCLA summer sessions FAQ

nice........so I can wait until the 4th week to avoid paying any fees and drop the class. Thx for the replies. On a side note, is there a place on campus where I can download Maple (for diff.eq) for free?

I believe you also have to complete 75% of your units attempted, (I had this bright idea also)--check it out on the FAO website.

Also, I'm not a math guy, and I have no idea what maple is, but I know mathamatica (maybe Mat lab too) is on the computers in Public Policy, some econ classes use it, I don't know if thats even the kinda of thing your looking for though.
