Summer sessions at UCLA vs. CC

I am currently debating whether I should take CC classes over the summer or do like two UCLA summer sessions classes? I will be a rising high school senior. The thing that is bringing me closer to doing the UCLA classes is that I want a memorable summer and some experience living on a college campus just to kind of get a better feel for how college will be and to decide if I want a big uni like UCLA or a smaller lac. With money not being an issue, do you guys think I should go for it and take classes at UCLA for the experience or just take some at a CC? Also, does anyone know if other high school students do summer sessions at UCLA? (I am kind of concerned about the social aspect because idk if college students will necessarily want to hang out with a high school student). Thanks for taking a look at this guys!

I would spend the summer doing something more fun or take classes at cc. Ucla classes won’t count as an extra gpa point on your transcript and you would only be able to take GEs for the most part due to pre req requirements. Summer classes are very fast paced and summer isn’t too indicative of Ucla life. Most students live in apartments over summer and stick with the friends they signed up for classes with.

I know students (rising high school seniors) who have taken summer classes at UCLA & at Harvard & Brown. All claim that their experiences were wonderful. But, important to note, all too classes that were of interest to them.

@10s4life Well, I am either going to take classes at UCLA or at a CC (do not really have another options for the summer at the moment). I think out of the two, UCLA classes would probably be more fun. What I want most out of it is the experience, while I do want to be productive and taking classes, my main goal is to get a feel for college.

@Publisher Alright, thank you for this info. Could you possibly elaborate on their experiences if you know any details?. Both socially and academically?

I do not know specifics. Parents & student (only one that I know at UCLA) only shared positive comments about overall experience.

Things are slow over the summer at UCLA. Lots of visiting students and foreign students will be in the classes. I lived in the dorms over the summer while taking a few classes, and most of the people on my floor were foreign students. Totally different vibe from during the school year. The activities were focused on taking people out to do touristy things.
