Hey everyone, I'm going to be a sophomore at Miami (Ohio) this upcoming fall but I recently saw some summer sessions offered at schools like NYU, Brown etc. I was wondering if anyone has done these while they were at another UGrad school and did you think that it was worth it. Do you work with real university professors at the schools. Could this be an advantage if I wanted to attend one of these schools for post undergrad education, with professor recs and what not.

Actually looking at other options I saw Berkeley has Internships within pretty much any area of study plus offers credit. Do you guys think interning with a school I'm interested in for the future would look better than just taking a summer session. Do a lot of schools offer intern/research with their departments for summer. Sorry If this is a dumb question but I really wanna gain experience outside of Miami during breaks and all.

Are you asking: Suppose I want to go to grad school at Berkeley. If I do an internship in the lab of a Berkeley professor this summer, would that help me get into Berkeley later?

The answer is, yes. If you do a good job and the professor likes you and writes you a letter of recommendation for admission to grad school in his department, this will help you get into that department for grad school. Not enough to override poor grades or poor recommendations from your own college or poor GRE scores, but if everything else is okay for admission to Berkeley, the letter of recommendation from the Berkeley professor would be a nice plus.

Of course.

Summer school in Berkeley is a lot of fun. Some of the classes are taught by Berkeley professors, but many are taught by grad students or outside instructors, so you need to be aware of that. I don't know about the internship program you specifically mention.
