Summer STEM Institute (SSI) 2020

Hi guys! I didn’t see a thread for SSI, so here it is  There’s little known about this program as it is new, but use this thread to chance each other, ask questions, notify of acceptance, etc.

I submitted my application yesterday. Has anyone heard back yet? they do rolling admissions do idk how fast i should expect a response

wdym? I just checked out the program and it looks like it’s only 2.5k and 6.5k?

I was originally gonna do this Tufts summer research experience program, which was 7.5k for a virtual program. Tbh even though it’s taught by Harvard and Stanford students, SSI looks like it might be a much better experience – the speakers and mentors look way better, I ended up applying to SSI too.

^^^I also submitted my app, so many things have gotten cancelled :frowning: i wonder how competitive SSI is…

Has anyone got a decision yet? Admissions are rolling so just wondering.

Just submitted as well. Do yall know how long it takes to recieve ur admission/rejection letter? And do you think they would offer full financial aid?

i’m considering applying but i’m iffy on the off chance that it’s nothing more a cash grab

I was just accepted into all three parts of the program including research, but I’m still deciding if I should attend.

My ecs were decent with 2x USABO Semifinalist, 2x Science Olympiad National medalist, USACO Silver (wasn’t that dedicated to USACO), and a couple of Hackathon wins.

I was rejected by several prestigious summer programs including SSP, Simons, and Scripps research, so I applied to this program on a whim.

Can anyone provide any more info on the legitimacy of the program and whether it’s worth the time and money?

@Nano1337 Are you going to apply for financial AID?

@Joe11223456 I’m planning on applying, but I doubt I will qualify for very much. It doesn’t hurt to try though.

@Nano1337 When did you apply for this program? Do you know approximately how long it takes after submitting the application to receive acceptance in this program?

@22sidddd They received my application on April 6th but I emailed this week before I got my decision and they said that the rest would come out in 1-2 weeks.

@rlong82372 when did you send in your application? I think I sent mine in about 8 days ago… If it takes about 3 weeks I still have a while to wait.

Also what were your stats?

@rlong82372 Congrats! I’m glad u decided to give it a chance too. Sure, the directors are kinda young compared to other programs, but their achievements parallel those of renowned researchers and businessmen. I’ve been getting more into compsci recently, so I hope to create a great data science research project with their mentorship.

Has anyone who has gotten in applied for financial aid? I am curious if they’re waiting until the end to release decisions to people that applied for financial aid in order to get a better idea of how much money they can provide.

@dhuang7878 It looks like they will be sending out research topic interest forms in the coming 2 weeks for those that are accepted in order to best match you with a mentor.

When do you think they will stop sending out acceptances?

I submitted my application 2 days ago. Should I send in my request for financial aid now or wait for their decision letter?
