@inspired59 I’m hearing that they just don’t need to. Many directors come in from NY and cast their own shows, and they just aren’t needing that huge open call to fill their chorus. I have mixed feelings about this, since both my boys have tried the open call and they each thought it was a good experience, even though they weren’t selected. I however thought it was an expensive experiment. To have that many kids flying in from all over seems kind of wasteful if they really aren’t hiring many from that pool. They are still having open call for local St. Louis residents only.
I certainly can appreciate that… but I think they used to have open singing calls via submitting a video, wish they still had that option… oh well, on to the next
We had heard a few years ago from an NYC Casting Director that the market (then) was such that for ensemble rolls, he could skip the “singers” call and just do a dance call. Then he could hire terrific dancers with the best singing skills to balance out the vocals. I’m guessing this phenomenon is also “trickling down” to summer stock and some high-end community theater. At least MUNY is including non-Equity dancers - so far.
Thanks @mom4bwayboy and @MTTwinsinCA … all of this info is helpful. Last year my S applied to some of the regional summer auditions, but, unfortunately was unable to attend due to medical issues. This year he is ready to start this process all over again, so any and all information is helpful. Any seasoned/experienced auditonees that could share the “Good, the bad and the ugly” … lol, it would be appreciated
Has anyone heard any information about Pittsburgh CLO auditions … it seems a little late this year?
I’ve been checking daily and even contacted someone who lives close by. So far just crickets. Would love it if someone shared something new.
PCLO posted their summer season auditions yesterday.
Thanks @mom4bwayboy …my son already received his time slot, hoping for a summer gig
