Summer Stock

Has anyone had any experience with either College Light Opera Company or Ohio Light Opera Company? My D auditioned/submitted for both, but I can find very little on them beyond their websites. Any information on any aspect of the experience there would be appreciated!

@CTDramaMom - She probably won’t want to (especially considering her resume has led her to her AEA card), but college students can usually get an academic pass to work as a Non-Eq at Equity Houses for the summers. Actor’s Equity will decide which theatres she can/can’t work at, but I had many friends who worked at great theatres on stipends, classified as necessary internships for graduation. It just takes some buy in from the actor, the theatre and the program.

Just a thought.

Also - I have brought this up before, and it is late now, but I still recommend SETC for any Non-Equity college aged actor/singer looking for a summer gig.

The other reality of the times is that theatres accept video submissions more and more. If you can’t attend - SUBMIT. This is the season, so get on Playbill and Backstage and start sending stuff.

That’s good to know, @TheaterHiringCo. Thanks so much for the information!

My daughter is waiting to hear back from Straw Hat – has anyone received an audition slot yet?

My daughter is a MT junior – She has done 2 seasons of summer stock, and she is getting ready for this next round of auditions! She has really enjoyed it, and it has really beefed up her resume. I know Fall of her sophomore year, she was feeling pretty worn out – since she went almost straight from summer stock to her school fall production, but she we more than ready to get back at it in the spring.

@janne006 - Yes, audition slot received from Straw Hat

@Raam1012 Thanks – My daughter received word Jan 1 that her application was received, and she is on the website – but she doesn’t have her time yet.

I do not know specifics but notification of application was received around December 1 and around January 1, time slot was given. Application was sent around Thanksgiving.

agree with that statement @janne006! Summer stock is exhausting. My S came back last summer a week after school began and went straight to Fall production. This year, he will come back TWO weeks (if the preliminary schedule holds) after classes start BUT the show transfers to a local theater so he cannot reasonably do the Fall show and continue with his summer show commitment. It worked last year because of the alignment of dates. He should actually be less busy when he returns this Fall than if he jumped right back to school and Fall (school) production. Not a bad thing for the start of senior year!

Did anyone who attended OTA get a callback to go to a specific theatre?

Has anyone heard about an audition slot from NETC this year… my S turned in his information months ago, and its almost 30 days away and he has not heard anything.

My S still has not heard from NETC? He sent his application in 2 months ago. With just over 30 days before the event, I would of thought we would have heard something.

Still waiting to hear from Straw Hats. . . .

@Inspired59 My D is doing SETC instead of NETC, but a mom posted on another thread that her D is also still waiting to hear from NETC.

@Raam1012 – students of mine who attended OTAs received callbacks to go to specific theatres.

My D heard from NETC yesterday

Yes. D heard Yesterday. Some heard Monday

@janne006 … thanks for the update. My S did send an email last night and he received a reply that he will have an email by the end of the week. Hoping that he is notified with a time slot

How did those of you who heard from NETC get notified? USPS or Email?
