@Raam1012, email.
Yes, received this morning- thanks!
Good luck to everyone who is applying.
I have a somewhat related question. My son will be a freshman in theater tech this year. Do tech kids also have to audition/interview, etc. to work in summer stock? Is this something I should be telling him to look into at school?
@techmom99, yes there are apprentice/intern opportunities at many theatres for tech. You can check out websites of various summer stock theatres and go to the employment section.
@raam102 … Yes received the NETC email today, although a little concerned, his time slot is after 5:00 PM and callback and dance call are at the same time, not sure how he attends both. Last year this happen and missed out on a lot of call backs. Anyone have a solution?
@techmom99 SETC does portfolio reviews for tech/design. They also offer a whole strand of workshops designed for folks in those fields. My kid is MT, so I can’t give you any further details, but attending SETC is definitely worth the price of admission. They also have a big exhibit hall full of professionals in all fields related to theater tech/design. OTA also does portfolio reviews for summer work.
@inspired59 - hmmm - well that is interesting. If dance call is in the 6-8:30 time slot, does that mean they have more than 1 dance call? We have a time slot well after 5 pm so this could certainly get dicey. Maybe someone can give some input on a solution to this. Thanks!
@Inspired59 and @Raam1012 – Are you talking about the NETC schedule? I have been there casting many times, and can talk through how the schedule works if it would be helpful.
KatMT - yes, we are talking about NETC - that would be very helpful
@GSOMTMom and @mom4bwayboy -
Thank you both so much. I believe that he has an internship lined up for this summer with a film focus but it would be too late for this summer anyway. Once we get past the picking a college and HS graduation, he can look into SETC and NETC.
@KatMT … I need some help/suggestions for NETC schedule. My S was there last year and going this year, he has a time slot after 5:00 pm on Saturday and my understanding is the call backs are after 6:00 PM along with the dance call at 6:00 PM, last year he missed many call backs because he could not attend both at the same time. Any solutions or suggestions to help manage this issue?
Is anyone familiar with The Okoboji Summer Theater (I believe they are owned by Stephens College)? Worked for them? Auditioned? Good experience/bad experience? Thank you!
Best of luck to all who are at MWTA this weekend!
Does anyone have any inside information on Crane River Theater in Kearner, Nebraska and Bigfork Summer Playhouse in Montana? D just finished MWTA’s and got callbacks for these two places. There is nothing on Gig and Tell. Thanks in advance.
@TNMTDAD I don’t know anything about Crane or Bigfork. My D also got a call back from Bigfork today, but I haven’t had a chance to talk to her about it yet. They look like they have a great 2017 Summer season!
@TNMTDAD and @janne006 , my S too! And, would love more info.! He also, received a callback from Cedar Point and Thunder Bay. His phone was almost dead so he couldn’t tell me much, but he said the callback for Bigfork and Thunder Bay for him and the few others in the room was just a meeting to go over pay, etc. and they were to email them back if they were interested. Did your Daughters have the same experience with Bigfork?
@actormommy My D’s phone is also dead, crazy kids! My D went to an audition last weekend, and her phone died before she got home. I thought for sure she’d remember her chargers this time. Oh well. My D’s callbacks were all audition types except for one; one theater had her do her package again. She’s excited about Bigfork – she says the “guy” was really nice and complimentary. Bigfork will also be at SETC, so she doesn’t expect to hear anything for a few weeks. My D has friends who have worked at Cedar Point and at Thunder Bay. In fact, one of the MT Seniors in her program was at Thunder Bay last year, and he will be working for them again this year. He was actually on the other side of the table helping them with auditions.
@actormommy How was your S’s audition for Okoboji? I hadn’t heard of Okoboji until you mentioned it – I found a casting notice that specifically requested men. My D’s friend went to Stephens College (not in theatre), and I remembered that it was a women’s college. Maybe that’s where they get their female talent, interesting, nevertheless.
@janne006, it went very well! Thank you for asking! He did get a callback from them as well and is sending it to them by video this week. He has heard great things after asking around. And, Yes, the girls are cast by the theater majors at Stephens College. He still has ITA and Strawhat. It’s all very overwhelming for him and exciting. This is his first experience with summer stock work!
@TNMTDAD - d has friends who’ve worked at both Crane and Bigfork. Actually multiple friends at Bigfork. I think in general both places were positive experiences. Several who’ve worked at Bigfork have gotten repeat offers in subsequent years.
