Summer Stock

My d. will be 18 in June. I know she would love to do Summer Stock and earn some money and experience. I looked up "Straw Hat" on line. Does anyone have experience with Straw Hat? How about other "summer Stock" auditions? I will admit I am nervous about the possibility of her spending the summer out of state, but she'll be leaving for college in late August anyway.

I am the artistic director at a theatre that casts at StrawHat. I have to admit that I do not believe I have seen many (if any) auditionees there who have not been out of HS for at least one year. But it may not be prohibitive. I think that on the StrawHat website they have information about suggestions for "younger" performers.

It also may be that some younger performers apply, but because audition appointments can e difficult to get the college students and young professionals tend to get the appointments before a graduating HS Senior.

When I was in HS I performed at a local summer theatre. I lived at home, and commuted to the theatre each day. It allowed me to get some terrific experience before college without having to live away from home without any supervision before college. There may be companies in your area that hire HS students to perform as part of their summer company.

Thank you for the reply. We have very little in the way of "paid summer stock" where I live. D will probably get a day job and do some community theater. We do live 45 minutes from a Six Flags and that is also a possibility.
