Hello - like most incoming students my daughter is coming with lots of stuff including a fridge and will buy a rug. What do the students do with their stuff during summer breaks - are there local storage facilities, etc. or does UMD allow you to store stuff. Rather not lug the fridge and run back each year.

UMD’s storage is based on boxes of stuff (not a lot). For the last 2 summers, we got a small storage unit locally that is quite nice. They lived in the Language House and had extra stuff besides just refrigerators. Between the two of them they had enough stuff to fill up the unit. (and, we live 7 hrs away). Especially if your student can go in with other people, you can justify the cost. After the 1st year, neither D needed their (cheap) rugs they had…they passed them along to friends who could use them.

Astro, is the storage through the university or somewhere nearby? We’ll probably be looking to store a refrigerator and carpet…not much else.

It’s nearby…Langley Park, I think? Maybe if you can find one or two other people (most like OOS) in the same boat as you, it will make sense. The first month was free, I think the second two months were around $99 each, (maybe? don’t remember exactly)
