Does anyone have a cheaper alternative than U-Truck for summer storage?

A lot of students get together and rent a storage space, splitting the cost. I’ve always used U-Trucking with my daughter for the convenience. She gets free boxes, they pick them up and return them for us. With her living on the 3rd floor the last two years it’s been great. Last year we paid $270 and I felt it was worth it for the convenience, especially since my hubby and I both have bad backs and knees. I think we stored 6 items (4 large boxes, an ottoman and a refrigerator). We didn’t pay until she returned the following year.

I’ll be looking for some sort of summer storage arrangement, but U-Trucking was terrific last summer when my son (freshman) had to get his things off to college in the first place.

U-trucking is great for those who can afford it. I chipped in with my suitemates and we rented a storage room at a local facility and stored there over the summer. It was slightly inconvenient to have to make multiple trips.

A friend of mine did a similar thing last summer, but rented a large moving truck for the day (cost split among her suitemates) so that they only had to make one trip. I think I’ll opt for that this summer!

UTrucking is overpriced. Two years in a row they lost my stuff. I now stick to storage (theres some places about 2 miles away from campus) that charge $100 for the entire summer period.

I mean UTrucking charges $100 for a computer chair…it’s almost cheaper to buy a new one each year.

U-Trucking is good most of the time and it is soooo convenient BUT 2 years in a row my son had boxes delivered that had obviously been in standing water for some time and the contents had molded over the summer yuk! We were reimbursed but still it was a hassle.
