Summer Storage

Hi, everyone…wondering if anyone can give me more information on how BU students who live far away from school store their extra dorm items/clothes/etc. over the summer if they don’t have any family/friends in the area. I have done a forum search on the topic and I’m still a little confused. As the semester ends, will companies advertise on campus? Will they come on campus, deliver boxes and then pick up? Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Companies will start advertising the closer it gets to the end of the semester. On move out days companies will set up tables on the sidewalk at Warren and sell boxes or you can buy them elsewhere. We live 2000+ miles from Boston and stored our daughter’s stuff over the summer with Fetch. We looked at all the companies and found theirs to be the best fit for us. We were pleased with their service and the condition of our boxes when delivered. One thing to note who ever you use is to see if you need an appointed time for them to pick up your stuff in the spring and to deliver it in the fall. Make these appointments as soon as you know your move out/move in schedule.

Brrrrr14, Can u give some details on the cost. What is the monthly cost? Is there an extra charge for pick up & delivery. For a typical storage period of Mid May to late August how expensive would it be? Thanks

I don’t remember the details but they were in line with everyone else. You can check out their website and get a quote. I think it’s fetchstorage.com. Hope this helps.

I always preferred to use a traditional storage unit to store my things over the summer. They usually are in a pretty convenient location, charge by the month and some even have 24 hr access. You would have to take the belongings there yourself but if the person was living in a dorm I cant imagine they have that much stuff.

Depending on the size of the unit you are renting it could be anywhere from $30 per month to a few hundred. I did a quick search online and found there are alot of [Boston Storage Units](15 Cheap Storage Units in Boston, MA (From $19) - SpareFoot) in the area. Shop around and see what works best for you. Good luck!
