Hi. I just got the Tulane recommendations for summer storage. Do any of you recommend other storage facilities? The ones Tulane recommends are quite expensive. I would have a car and would be able to drop things off, so pick-up service is not really needed. Basically, my S just needs to store his refrigerator, printer, and 6 plastic drawers. Thanks for any & all suggestions. :)

My S is a Tulane grad and had the same issue…and lots of the same stuff to store! He also had a bicycle and other assorted boxes. He used Public Storage which has several locations in the area (I think he used one off of St Charles, but I’m not sure). Both my D (in a different state) and S used them with good results. Plus, we did the reservation online where they often offer the first month for 1 cent, so definitely look around for any coupons. I don’t remember the monthly charge but it was less than $50 and maybe closer to $35??? The only thing you need to check is whether the unit will be airconditioned or not. It’s important because they don’t recommend storing electronics in one without a/c (like your son’s printer).

But S & D both did the reservation online pretty early to guarantee one of the smallest, cheapest units so check on it fast since I think the units get fully booked in the summer. It was a pretty cheap and easy solution to both their needs.

Thank you, curiouser, for the referral. It looks good and there are several locations to choose from.

Two summers my D used the SafeGuardIt near the airport. Good experience both times.

I think that is who my D used also. We were also pleased.

Resident of New Orleans here. The Safeguard units are very professionally maintained and secured. Many locations around the city/suburbs. There is a lower cost one not too far from the airport, on Riverside Drive. Take the I-10W, Power Boulevard exit, right by the YMCA. Quick ride to the airport from there, if you want a place in a decent neighborhood, secure, and not too pricey. Also, climate controlled, which is a must in NOLA. FYI, I would not store anything on ground floor here in NOLA, especially if you’re not going to reclaim your stuff before Hurricane season is over, end of September, mostly.
