Summer suggestions for incoming freshman?

I posted this on the Parents Thread and am repeating it as a new Thread

Other than the requisite job search, do any of you have summer travel program or other summer suggestions?
My D usually has her summer well-organized far earlier - but her original plans have fallen apart. She plans to work for at least part of the summer - but I thought some of you might have suggestions that we haven't considered. She has done college programs the last two summers and was looking for something different. Thanks for any input.

Bumping this :)

^Are you the daughter?

Anyways does your daughter have to have plans for the summer before coming here? If you want her out of the house then that’s okay I guess, but maybe consider that you won’t be able to see her much for the rest of her life starting in a few months.

No - I am not the daughter - unless you are referring to Clowiebear - who is also not my daughter! And of course I look forward to spending time with my D this summer! But she was looking forward to a few weeks exploring a foreign destination with friends. Now that has fallen through, I turned to CC for suggestions, having found it to be a wealth of information in the past. And frankly, I am very grateful that she has unexpectedly decided to stay on the West Coast and that we will be in the same time zone for four years and am much more willing to “share” her.

There’s many things she can do. Even more if she can survive with strangers or, better yet, entirely on her own. What skills does she have? Would she be able to drive somewhere? By herself? Would you feel comfortable with her traveling on a yacht? With men? Are you willing to pay for anything that she does, or does her experience have to net money?

She can WWOOF. She can go camping. She can volunteer somewhere. She can deliver packages across the country.
