So my friend recently got accepted to FSU for the summer term, and I was wondering what is the point of having one instead of starting in the fall like everyone else? Is it to get prerequisites out of the way or something like that? The reason I want to know is because I would much rather do dual enrollment (I’m a junior) and clear my prerequisites instead of not having one last summer before I leave all of my high school friends behind.
Summer start gives you 6 weeks to learn the campus, knock out pre-reqs (though usually you are limited to only 6-7 credits anyway), and to get a head start so to speak. It’s also a semester that is often dedicated to students with lesser academic profiles to transition into the full college routine of course loads. And dual enrollment doesn’t always knock out all of the pre-reqs for majors.
Also since the Freshman summer session doesn’t start till late June, you have part of a summer vacation.
