<p>For those who are alternates, don’t lose hope. Our child was an alternate last summer and eventually moved to finalist.
Some kids decide they don’t want to go once they get their course/campus placement.
Some kids decide to attend another summer program (Gov. school, for instance)
Some must release their spot because they get into NC Science and Math for next fall.</p>
