Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics (NC)

snowinginc, wearing a watch is definitely I won't forget! I MUST! Well, w/ Beta Club, this time I went w/ o a watch and was competing in creative writing section w/ time limit of 90 min! I took evrything except a freakn' watch! (and guess what, I messed it up!) Thanks a lot. I made 99 in my ALg II Hon. (had similar stats for Geom too!)

By the way, this is not supposed to be the right thread for posts abt NCSSM!

I'm applying to Summer Ventures too....but sicnce we're going2 india this summer it's a nogo...and my discovery day at NCSSM was yesterday....so it was pretty awesome now I REALLY wan2 go....but my grades aren't that great so iunno

for me..i haven't applied to anything for summer (except this SVSM!) Now, if I can't get in, hmmmm.......I have to REALLY think what can be done!? I'm sure most of the summer program's deadline has passed......i'd probably do summer job/volunteering.....and SLEEP!!!

Bump...

What subject did you guys pick? I picked Biology as my #1 choice. I think that would send me off to Appalachian State if I am accepted. If I don't get in...I'll definitely be working someplace.

Another bump~
I took Bio as my no-1 choice too.......I will probably work if I don't get in! (I was dumb enough not to apply to other summer programs--ofcourse, I looked for free stuffs..and couldn't find anymore!)

hey I don't me to interrupt but what exactly did you do at your discovery day. Mine is saturday and I just want to be prepared. The only thing that I truely fear is my essay that I turned in because there was a big problem with my computer.

u should've immediately contacted the admission committee......they're pretty responsive! If something messes up w/ computer.......they allow to send the essay as an attachment w/ e-mail.

Hey, notifications are sent out on April 5th according to the summer ventures site.

Yep! (EXCITED!) If I can't get in......then I've to either work or volunteer! :(

I just wanted to mention that I am a senior and I went to Summer Ventures the summer before my junior year at Central University. It was a wonderful experience and the majority of the students were rising juniors. There were like 4 rising seniors out of about 65 students. And my stats weren't that great but I got in. And I had a friend that didn't apply to Summer Ventures but he got into NCSSM. This past summer I went to Governor's School in Winston-Salem and it was ten times better than SVSM but I think its far more selective, although there were 800 students total. It was so much fun. I miss it sooooo much.

But anyway, someone mentioned something about UNC, and I just got in like last week with a 1700 SAT score, so hey, these programs might've worked (plus I'm very active with extracurriculars, employment, volunteering, etc., and my GPA isn't tooo shabby). In addition, I got a likely letter from Duke, yay!

What was your GPA?

At the time it was probably like a 4.3 but now its a 4.6 something. It's nothing extraordinary. At SVSM I was like average, but at Governor's School alot of people had like 4.8 or 4.9, so I was a little below average.

let me ask u a stupid question.............it's weighted GPA right? (GPA style varies so much in different schools........so :D)

asifkhan that's not a stupid question. but yeah, its weighted. my unweighted was like a 3.9 at the time. right now it's like a 3.8.

BTW, Congrats on getting into UNC! That's great. I really hope I get into UNC next year...it's gonna be a long, long senior year. :/

Yeah, I think my senior year has been my longest year. But that's great that u wanna go to UNC. It's my dream school so I was estatic when I got my acceptance letter. And the only advice I can give for next year's seniors would be to be yourself on the application and don't rush. I was the last person to submit my application from my school (like a week before the deadline) and I was the only person that got in. So yeah, don't rush. Good luck!!!

Yeah, UNC definitely is my #1 (dream) school so I'll be sure to spend a long time perfecting every little detail. Thanks for the advice!

(this particular thread has become a thread for NCers! Although it just started as SVSM post!:D)

asifkhan, How did your Discovery Day at NCSSM go? What did you think ?
