Summer Visit...worth it?

Hi all. I’m wondering if it is worth it to visit Tulane in the summer? Will there be NO students there? Will “His Royal Son-ness” get the feel of the place nevertheless?

I’m not worried about wasting the trip. I’d go just for a debris sandwich at Mothers. But I do want him to get an accurate impression!

Thanks for any thoughts!

Grad students will be there. But better to go when undergrads are there and the other areas (Bruff, LBC, etc) are open and active.

@HRSMom

Really only a little to add to what jym626 said, just a second vote that visiting during normal semesters gives a better feel for the campus “vibe”. Now it is true that no matter when you visit a single day or even day/evening is only going to reveal so much compared to actually attending, but at least the student can attend a class or two that is more representative of how things actually are, and have lunch with students that are there for their first year (i.e. be in the same place he would be one year later) and get those kinds of impressions. Also, visiting after the end of September or so will be more pleasant (and more typical) weather-wise.

Thanks @jym626 and @fallenchemist

We went to Miami U last weekend, no kids! Elon over their spring break, no kids! I want to plan better this time!

It’s always best to see a campus when the students are in session but any visit is better than none at all.

We will be visiting this summer. I know its not ideal, but its the only time we can come.

I was there a day early before an orientation session when I was the only undergrad on campus and the entire place was a ghosttown. Everything about it was dead. The next day when all the orientation students came, the place became vibrant and magical. Everyone was laughing, smiling and talking to eachother. It is honestly 2 entire different worlds. If anything, visit to see the campus and look at that objectively and ignore the fact that the campus is a ghosttown.

With DD1, we visited most schools in fhe summer. Luckily, Tulane wasn’t one of those. One of the most significant pieces of advice I pass along to friends now is to visit when students are there. Better to save the expense of the trip for when students are there. Two trips to Tulane during classes sold her on the Tulane.

thanks all. I will wait. I have only been there once myself, and even then did not go to see it, so I don’t know exactly what to expect! But it is a beautiful and fabulous city, and I hope he likes it!
