When I was 15 (grade 11) I worked at our Ministry of Finance (sorta like Dept of Commerce) in the IT department. Pay wasn't anything to write about, but it was my first shot at some real experience in the computer field. Liked it hear, although everyone was older than me.

At 17 (freshman year), I worked at our Central Bank (equivalent to the Fed) in the Computer Department. Pay was slightly better (minimum wage), the experience I liked and it was fun to me.

Now at 18 I got me a part time job at a local ISP doing tech-support. Good thing is that when summer kicks around in 3 weeks I would start working full time hours till school starts in September.

Basically me being a CIS major, having a love and passion for computers, needing a lil bit of cash, experience for subsequent employments, and something to put on my resume. Hey, for whatever reason I always enjoy going to work during the summer and stuff. Its like I get paid for doing something I enjoy.

I am not in college yet, but I figure I will still be strapped for cash once I get there. Moreso than I am now probably. I'll be a Burger Jock this summer, and will probably do so every summer unless I can find a nice paid internship.

What grade are you in, Spec? If you're looking for something to put on an application, then you definitely want an internship. Do you know anyone that could give you a leg up on finding something?

i started working in a pharmacy as an ancillary during the summer of my jr-sr year..and i guess that kinda helped me get into college..i only did it cuz i needed a job and was interested in becoming a pharmacist

I'm going to second the advice given above. Do something that you think would be genuinely fun. However, start looking now. Contact your school's guidance counselors... if you've got really good ones they might be able to help you out but understand that most high school students don't do internships so they probably won't be able to give you much guidance. It's going to be tough finding something for someone your age, but I'm sure something is out there. Or, maybe you can just contact someone and hopefully they might let you shadow them or something. I don't have any real experience with internships, but there is a whole board here for stuff like that.

Well my summer job hunt is similar to a college hunt.

I get this heap of company's that I would like to work for. Then as I investigate I realize that only some have summer job programmes. Then I drive arround, or go online and get apps. Get some transcripts and certificates for those who need them and fill out the apps before the deadline.

Then during May (for those who take college students) wait for a phone call. Then in June or July wait for somemore to call.
