Summer

My son is a freshman in the College of Arts and Sciences. He's not sure what he wants to do this summer, but was thinking about earning some credits - - perhaps studying abroad. Does Oberlin offer any summer studies programs?

[Oberlin in Italy](<a href=“http://new.oberlin.edu/conservatory/summer/oberlin-in-italy/"]Oberlin”>http://new.oberlin.edu/conservatory/summer/oberlin-in-italy/) may be a good option – it’s a summer program based in Arezzo. It’s been mostly Conservatory students in the past (the website is pretty geared toward musicians), but last summer they started offering a liberal arts option so students in the College can study art history and take intensive Italian classes. It looks like the application[/url”>http://new.oberlin.edu/dotAsset/3556669.pdf]application (for non-musicians) is due very soon, though.

Oberlin also has an archaeological field school in a different part of Italy, which I’ve done before and loved, but I think that program is full for this summer.

Encourage him to get on google and look up the batrillion summer programs available to undergraduates. Also visit career services and the office of study away, and look up internships on obbieopps.

Oberlin does not offer any on campus summer studies programs. There are a minimal amount of paid on campus summer jobs and two summer research programs, but there are no classes.

As lipitopapito mentioned, the offices of career services and study away, and a look through ObieOps (an internal database of internships and jobs that career services sponsors) are a good first step to figuring out what sort of summer opportunities exist.

Oberlin accepts transfer credits from other accredited institutions but I highly recommend that you and your son take a look at the extensive amount of information [about transfer credits](http://www.oberlin.edu/catalog/college/transfer.html) if he chooses to go that route.

And just because I can, here are some Oberlin blog posts about staying in town for the summer:
