I'm kind of worried because I don't have much to do over the summer, and it's the summer before my senior year. Would it be alright if I did a lot of volunteering and possibly got a paid job as a tutor? Or something of that nature? I was stupid and forgot that you have to apply for the more prestigious summer programs, internships, etc very early on. I'd like to get into a fairly prestigious college, but I feel that, the fact that I can't even take the initiative and sign up for important summer activities shows that I'm just not prestigious college material... ><

Any advice? What should I do over the summer? Please help! (Btw, I'm more of a humanities person than a math/science/tech person, if that helps. Although anything would be great) Thanks

I don’t think it really matters that much. I’m actually in the same situation, but I guess I have an excuse since I just moved to a new school this semester. Just load up on volunteering and tutoring and you should be good. Also, if you could find some less prestigious program/course to get into for a a week or two, that would be fine as well.

I was/am not one of those pro-active types either. My summers pretty much consisted of playing competitive golf and some last minute volunteering (and a sketchy self employed “job”). The only thing I think would have significantly improved my chances would have been serious research. I did take a one week course though at UofT though, but it’s too late to sign up for that I think.

Anyway, I’m going to try and write a novella this summer for kicks. It should be somewhat funny. My idea is pretty novel, I think (no pun intended). Maybe you could do something like that.
