Does anyone know when NYU sends out invitations to "Sunday at the Square" to those likely to be admitted? I'm crossing my fingers and hoping to get one :)

They are usually sent out sometime late Feb. or early March..obviously before decision letters. Sunday at the Square invites from NYU are akin to likely letters from ivys...if you get one, you're pretty much getting in.

Does everyone who gets in get a letter, or is it just for the best of the admitees?

No, not everyone gets a letter. Invitees are usually the top students and NYU has this event to convince them to attend.

Everyone does not get one, only the shoe in's do.

NYU uses Sunday at the Square invites like the Ivy league uses likely letters, they have several functions for the school:

To convince the top people it covets the most to actually attend.

To feel out the applicant pool by guaging reaction to the invite. Based on the response to the invite, the school will see how many people are seriously conisdering NYU, and thus will get a better idea of their acceptance rate and yield.

I'm REALLY hoping for a Sunday at the Square invite, too, david. Just one question: does NYU pay for your transportation and lodging if you decide to go to Sunday at the Square?

No, NYU will not pay for you to attend.

have they already begun to send them out or are are they just about to start sending them?

It does not seem like they have sent them out yet. Give the school some time, after all, 35,000+ apps is a lot to review. I imagine people will also start posting here once the invites are sent out and recieved.

There is also University Day which is usually the day after you get your letter. They send those out mid March - it's basically a "pre-acceptance letter".

If I were to get one, it could save me weeks of anxiety. Bah!

will gsp students get these invites too? or just the regular people?

I don't think GSP people get these invites...its only the very top of the applicant pool who recieves such (ie students NYU knows it wants, and are getting accepted to the NYU school they applied to). I imagine people who get these invites have very close to a 100% acceptance rate to NYU.

How many letters do they usually send out?

No info. is available on exactly how many letters are sent out...but only very top portion of the applicant pool (students certain to get admitted) get invites to Sunday at the Square. If you get one, you're getting in.

Oh man, I'd love to get one.

I was opening an email, and the subject was "Come visit our university..."
So I'm like, "drum roll please..."
And it turned out to be some junk mailing

HAHA....oh man, what a tease.

Has anybody gotten an invitation to this yet?

Here's an article about it http://www.washingtonsquarenews.com/news/campus/969.html

And some kid from last year (on these forums) said he got one on March 8th...I don't have the URL anymore...

That's an article about University Day, not Sunday in the Square. University Day is for admitted students and it's in April. Sunday in the Square is for the very top of the applicant pool so that it will convince them to come to NYU. Square events have traditionally been held prior to any decision letters going out. Admitted student events (University Day) are held after decision letters go out.
