Will I struggle to make friends/meet people since I’ve heard that Sunset Village is not very social?
A parent here, so take this with a grain of salt: it’s probably less social than the classic dorms, but you should not have problems making friends at UCLA. Between classes and the dining commons, you’ll meet plenty of people.
Pros:
Low on the hill so you don’t have to make a big hike up several times a day
Close to all the dining commons
Easy route to north campus classes
You get to walk through the beautiful plaza in front of Sproul and Covel that is bustling with energy
Air conditioning
Regardless of where you live on The Hill, UCLA really has a good housing situation. You’ll have a great time. Even if you don’t like football, go the the free game early in the season for the social aspects. Enjoy!
Another parent here. My incoming freshman D is at CSI right now in the Sproul Landing dorm and will be moving to Sunset Village in the Fall. My understanding is that Sproul Landing is similar to Sunset Village in many respects. Making new friends takes time, but so far my D has not had any trouble meeting lots of new people, going to the dinning halls with others, etc. Her two roommates are great.
