SUNY Albany (Honors) vs. SUNY Binghamton

I got into UAlbany with a $3,500 scholarship, and have gotten into their honors program. Additionally, I got into Binghamton, though I do not know about any merit money I may/may not receive.

I'm intending on majoring in biology, and go pre-med to become a pediatric ER doctor. Or something like that.

I could probably afford either, but I am leaning towards Binghamton. I am just curious from another perspective...

Which school do you think would be better and why?

Binghamton is very highly regarded. If I remember my talks with the SUNY alums that I know, Binghamton has (well back through the 80s) been regarded as one of the top 2. Back in the 80s, the other top 2 SUNY was Albany, but for some reason, Albany has been beaten out by Buffalo. I may have mixed up Albany and Buffalo, though. Binghamton has (in recent years, back to the 80s, at least) always been regarded as one of the two best SUNYs, though.

I've heard Bing has an awesome reputation, I just wanted to make sure that I'm not crazy for passing up the $3,500/year scholarship and the honors reputation.

But Albany, I hear, is more of a party school...

Albany has a few perks for those that want to do pre med :
1. Project Renaissance, which allows all freshman pre med students to live together and take some of the same courses.
2. They have a early assurance program with Albany Medical College
3. Has excellent science facilities.
4. Has a public health major which I would look into.

Albany although with its great perks is too much of party school for me to handle and the campus looks completely utilitarian and unappealing. Binghamton has the overall greater college experience. I guess it is up to you.

Dennis - I agree with the party school reputation bit about Albany. Additionally, Binghamton has been one of my top choices for awhile now, and in the end... I think that's where I see myself happiest.

Where do you attend/where are you planning to attend in the fall?

I have spent a weekend in both campuses and if you are like me, the type of person who likes to party but is studious and "intellectual", you would strive at Binghamton. I know that being at a school for a weekend is not enough to make a judgement but due to my own personal experience, recounts from attendees of the school, and known reputation , I have come to believe that Albany is just way too much of a party school.

Binghamton has a nice campus , good reputation, a lot of opportunities , and great academics.

me, I will be going to cornell.

Dennis - Thank you for your input, and I feel EXACTLY the same way.
I visited cornell, and while it was gorgeous, I feel that the high pressure ivy league setting is not for me. I would much rather put the pressure on myself to succeed, I don't need that extra pressure.

HANDS DOWN: BINGHAMTON......Now, yesterday, forever.............Even with a full scholarship from Albany.......

Rodney - While I can see where you're coming from... on what do you base your answer?

Bump Bump Bump.

perfected chaos: quality of student body, admits to grad school, balance of work/play attitude.....

Just so I knew where you were coming from, that's all.
But I agree with you there.

enough with bumping this thread.youve gotten an adequate response.

Binghamton, definitely. It's better academically, and having lived in the area for 16 years I can tell you that it also is a lot cooler place to live in than Albany.
