i know that when it comes down to it you can get a pre-med education anywheres, but i guess my question is who is better for science and math. Also who has more opportunities overall for a pursuit in the medical field.

Of those two, I'd say UB. Stony Brook is also really tops in science and math.

Buffalo has really strong health sciences -- med, pharm, dental -- and has a variety of early assurance programs for med school . here's more info:

UB Undergraduate Admissions: Academics - Early Assurance Programs

thank you so much for the response. these are the two schools i am considering if i don't get into binghamton.

Go to UB, it has a med school that you can get early acceptance into.

since it is based off of high school sats then i won't have a shot at all. that is the only thing that would stop me from getting into binghamton really. the only thing i am concerned about with ub is if the size will prevent me from being in contact with the professors?

I think Buffalo might be stronger for pre-med than Bing, especially because of the early assurance programs. You really should do more research before you make your final decision.

do your stats make you eligible for the UB Honors College? Lots of personalized contact with profs built into that program.

unfortunately no. the early assurance programs are great but i am also not eligible for any of them due to my sat scores. also i don't mean for this to come out rude, but more so as an inquisition, aside from the early assurance programs offered at ub, why do you think it is better than binghamton?

Price, easier admission requirements, and the early assurance programs are the main advantages.

I don't think Binghamton has a Medical School.

thank you both of you for your input. academically though who do you think is better?

Binghamton is the flagship in the SUNY branding I think. If you are confident you can do well on the MCAT to get into a med school then go there.

Go to Buffalo if you aren't confident. They give priority to undergrad students.

Binghamton used to be the flagship. though its changing quite rapidly. UB is really going to the top quite fast and will be the Suny main university by 2020. Just like the Penn state system.

do you see it being even more prestigious by the time that i graduate in 2013?

probably not, though as time goes on after the 2020 your degree will probably increase in worth.

I think either school is a fine choice. I have many friends who were pre-meds at UB and they liked it. I suggest you visit each and pick which one you see yourself in. Albany tends to be really dead and the dorms are small. UB tends to be much bigger and has a more diverse student population and life. I like UB alot, and chose it over all the other Sunys. The dorms are nice on North campus, and south campus is very eventful, though the dorms are older. Buffalo also has really good food. From Wings to Sausage and Bakery's. It was all very nice. The city of buffalo kind of sucks, but UB is in Amherst so its pretty nice there.

agreed. buffalo’s health programs is outstanding. for pre-med you should really consider it. im not sure whether it has early-insurance program (for pharmacy it has) it really helps you to get into the major. still you will have to compare programs that you like in both schools and make your decision. as Dr.Horse said Amherst town of Buffalo is great. its safe and nice neighbourhood.

What do you guys think between UB, Geneseo, and U of R…i’ve gotten a full ride at UB, and the other 2 would be at least $70,000 for the full 4 years, compared to 0 at UB. i’m doing premed too and really love Rochester, but it would cost me $100,000 there. what do you all think

I have a friend who did his undergrad pre-med at UB, and got a Full ride at U of R medical school as well as Tufts and UPitt. He is really smart guy and those top schools didn’t care about what pre-med school he went to. Id go to UB. Just be prepared to work harder than at U Of R because grading is tougher at UB because its a public.
