I was recently accepted to SUNY Stony Brook and SUNY Albany. These are my top two schools and I can't decide on which one I would like to attend. If anybody can help me with some information that may help me decide, that would be great!

My major will be undecided, however I am interested in Psychology.
I live in Westchester, NY.

Only to state the obvious. SB is rated higher, but is largely a commuter school. If you dont want to go home every weekend, it could get depressing. Albany also has lots of internships in govt.

i've lived in stony brook, ny my whole life (going away to college next year) so maybe i can provide a decent opinion.

on the positive side, if you're interested in math or science stony brook is one of the best schools u can go to, stony brook worships all that, especially since we have a med school, dental school, etc, the students in these programs are very passionate about their studies, its also about 5 miles away from the beach, but other than that theres not much to do off campus

on the negative side, alot of kids from long island end up going to stony brook, atleast half of my senior class (650+ students) applied and will probably end up going there. stony brook has dorms but its mostly international students and what not. more than half the kids that go there live all over suffolk county, so yea stony brook is made up of long island kids and international students pretty much

I was excepted to a few different colleges, and I was pretty happy with what Albany offered. I also knew people who transferred from SB and couldn’t wait to get out if there.
Albany is really what you make of it. For some, it is a place to party, and for others it is academically challenging and rewarding. It is a very diverse school with great opportunities throughout the city for internships, part time jobs and careers. It has a nice blend of urban and suburban environments as well.
I will say this, it provides you with a great ‘college experience’ for the price. After visiting Cortland, Bing, Oneonta and Geneseo… It was a very easy decision for me. I had been admitted into Penn St and U Conn, and did not want to go that far into debt, so Albany provided a large school atmosphere at quite a bit of a discount.

Dear Bam, one of my co-workers kids who was not accepted in Albany Honors program as a freshman got in soph year on basis of fresh grades. Do not know if all majors can do this. It will help you make more of your experience there. good luck.
