My son’s friend found out yesterday (in state) so maybe there is something to it. Wed/thurs
Yes
Was it for school of management?
We are finding this slow roll of acceptances much more frustrating than if they just released them all on one day! What does it mean that my high stats OOS kid has not heard yet? Probably nothing but makes us wonder if there is some issue with the application.
Omg I could have written this post 2 years ago. I felt the same way as you do now. My dc ended up getting into his ED school and withdrew from Binghamton before hearing, but there were many other high stats kids like him who didn’t hear in the first wave and did get in.
Did you read through last year‘s thread? I felt like there were some kids who were “high stat/high achievement“ kids that heard late last year, and I assumed it was because Binghamton was waiting to see if they got in ED somewhere and withdrew.
My son who got into Binghamton last week is more like an average good student (3.91/1500) rather than an exceptional student.
This is an interesting theory bc I just posted that my dc did end up withdrawing from
Binghamton after getting into his ED school two years ago
That does make sense. He should hear from ED next week and was hoping that he would have a solid acceptance that he would happily attend if the ED is a no.
I looked at the thread briefly, did not look at it in details. Your son sounds pretty exceptional. Mine is 4.0uw/4.6w/1560 so not sure there is a huge difference. He would be happy to attend Bing (I a an alum) and was hoping to have an early acceptance going into the ED next week.
@helpingthekid73 what date was the application submitted? potentially the delay is simply just when the app was submitted and where it was in the pile to get to reading and seeing the high stats???
with the first decisions being released on 11/2 they most certainly started to review apps upon receipt and did not just start after the EA deadline.
for many schools I feel it does tend to hit a nerve or get a bit puzzling when people post, “well they are only admitting high stats kids first.” well, plenty of people who feel they fall under that category can say they have yet to hear. then add on when those accepted post their stats and then again, you see that your student’s stats are higher than those that have gotten their decision.
the penn state thread is filled with this sort of dialogue.
he applied the first day of the free app week, I dont remember the exact date.
so when we visited in August, the speaker (Dean of Admissions, I think) said something to the effect of, “If you apply September 1 or October 31, we’re not looking at anything until Nov. 1” I mistakenly took that to mean that there wasn’t a queue forming, when in retrospect, obviously there was. A classmate of my D24’s applied late September and heard almost immediately once the early action deadline closed.
ok so that was well into October.
my student had applied in September so I chalked it up to it being in quite early, coupled with that sometimes subjective label of high stats as to why the decision came on 11/2.
correct - this is was exactly my student’s experience.
they most certainly looked at things as they landed in the queue.
Can I ask if anyone who got an email the other night from the school they or their child applied to with the status link got accepted in this recent batch? I’m doing some detective work on figuring out why they sent that email out.
we got that email but still no decision notification…
I hate the word “high stats”. Period.
We got the email the other night from Decker (Nursing) which is where she applied. Did not get any acceptance or portal changes to date:( Still waiting:(
We are In-State.
I’m wondering if the email was a “hold tight” email. Something to keep us interested while they are getting through the whole application review process.
I don’t think you can read anything into the email - or even the process. It has always seemed somewhat haphazard. My son got the email but applied during the free weeks like most people here.
Going back 5 years ago, the same thing happened with my daughter. She received an acceptance in early December, but her friend with almost identical stats from the same HS and applying to the same college at Bing did not hear until a month later.
