I know this is a long shot but has anyone transferred from UB to Oswego? If not is there anyone that transferred from a really big school to a smaller school and have any advice? I can't decide if i should leave UB to go to Oswego...HELP!

Post this on the “colleges” General SUNY thread.

FYI- I attended Oswego for 2 years and transferred to a Big Ten school many years ago. Oswego was fun, good academics and great people. I believe the town has gone from nothing to having some more stores now. I have no negatives to tell you. It is small. Nice dorms on the “newer” campus (really on the same campus just called that).

UBuffalo- My son is there so I’ve seen it and know what I know! Seems like more speakers and activities going on there. Better reputation and choice of majors.

I think when you make friends at Oswego, should you transfer, you will be happy. In both schools you will spend lots of time indoors so you become tight with the kids in your dorm. You can easily walk to classes from the dorms. Some of the older dorms, you’ll have to walk outside for your cafeteria although new campus there are tunnels.

Visit and see what you think. My general feeling about any school is that when you make a group of friends you will be happy anywhere. Good luck with your decision.

if you are looking for reputation in a school DEFINITELY don’t transfer to oswego. if you really want a smaller “college” (as opposed to a university) feel, continue to check out oswego. that is my opinion.

Buffalo is a SUNY research center, so if you’re studying anything close to science it’s not a good idea.

But I dunno - you might like Oswego. Just don’t transfer to Stony Brook! It’s terrible

“f you are looking for reputation in a school DEFINITELY don’t transfer to oswego. if you really want a smaller “college” (as opposed to a university) feel, continue to check out oswego. that is my opinion”

Wrong answer. Oswego is a very solid school, I spent 5 years there. The education is solid and the school has a small feel and I haven’t met anyone who has thought Oswego is a “bad” school. I graduated in 1993. Only on boards like this one is a school like Oswego lumped in the same category as a U=Phoenix, so keep perspectiver when you read the responses given. Oswego is also one of the most beautiful campuses in the east coast, which is a huge bonus. My freshman dorm was ~50 yards off of the edge of Lake Ontario. I loved my Oswego experience.
