SUNY Binghamton Class of 2022

@hmnif2000 - My friend was deferred last year and ended up getting in so being deferred is not a rejection. Good luck!

@lavidalocamama
Thank you so much!

Now that the first deferrals were sent yesterday, I wonder whether that means that in coming days there’s going to be much more deferrals and rejections compared to acceptances? So in essence, the longer we have to wait for news the higher the likelihood that we will get bad news?

Have most of the notifications been for “in-state”?

No @grotonMAdad. Plenty of OoS have been sent as well.

My friend got rejected yesterday I don’t know his stats thoe

@WilliamNYC I wonder this as well. But my son does not wish to contact admissions to see if they have looked at his application yet, and I don’t think it looks good for me to do it for him.

I agree with your son @margarett . I know the wait is unbelievably difficult but I don’t think it is a good idea to contact admissions at this point. It kind of shows inability to deal with stress…

I haven’t heard back yet…
Actually my GC handed in fee waiver form late so I’m not sure if they even have actually seen my application…
But my status is lower than others apparently and I saw posts that Bing will see scores more for EA on this thread, so I think I will get rejected.

No decisions tonight?

still waiting here too

Hi , Are you in State? My son is waiting his GPA is 38 and sat 1260. Not sure if he will be excepted . Due to his SAT. He checks everyday .

Congratulations! Where did she see the President’s Scholarship information?

Does anyone know when people are notified regarding University Scholars? Also, has anyone received merit scholarships yet? My son was accepted to Harpur on 11/30.

Anyone ever hear of Binghamton protecting their yield by rejecting students whose stats are too competitive and from out of state? I’ve heard that some schools do this if they don’t think the student will attend

True @grotonMAdad, schools do protect their yield and it is known that overqualified applicants might get rejected or wait-listed because of this. Advantage of waitlisting is clear since the school maintains a chance to get the high achieving student while asking the student to reconfirm their interest by accepting the waitlist spot. If the student has heard from other more desirable schools they would decline the waitlist (as my D did last year with another school).
Now. What schools will tell you is that ‘overqualified’ students are rejected for reason of not showing enough genuine interest in attending the school. That the applicant has made it too obvious in their application that this is just their safety school… I can see that happen yeah. Admissions officers have feelings too…
Given Binghamton’s solid record of attracting smart kids, I’d think that an applicant’s stats have to be really way high to be considered ‘overqualified’… Also I think that it is a bit presumptuous for an applicant to say that they were rejected because of being too smart. Possibly their application was lacking in other areas.

@WilliamNYC that’s been my impression as well. My student hasn’t heard back from Binghamton. The funny thing with the common app, there really isn’t too much to specify in it to so interest to a specific school, if they don’t have additional writing supplements or even questions like “why Binghamton?” I don’t mean to sound presumptuous, each student has a range of schools they apply to, and hopefully everyone ends up in a place that’s a good fit for them. I hope for everyone for good news soon for anyone who hasn’t heard back yet!

We’re still waiting for news from Bing also @grotonMAdad. The wait is nerve wrecking. Especially now that deferrals have started to go out! Hoping for the best!

@Terriermom8 - the initial President scholarship info came in the official acceptance letter, and then just this week she got a scholarship letter with more details.

Thanks @1S1Dforcollege! Very exciting for your daughter, congratulations!
