SUNY Binghamton Out Of State

Hey guys. I’ll be applying to SUNY Binghamton from New Jersey for the business school. Even though I have a low GPA and decent ACT score(34 E 27 M 27 27 R 24 S) I have an excellent essay and strong ecs. I’m taking AP econ and psych, and calc, physics, english(all regular). My mom knows an NJ representative who can reflect their interest in me to the school. If i apply regular decision with straight A’s my senior year what do you guys think? Thanks!

What is your GPA? Typically strong ECs and a good essay don’t compensate for below standard academics. Look at the class profile for SUNY Binghamton online and see where you stand.

SUNY Binghamton’s middle 50% ACT composite is 27-31, and the GPA is 92-97. I think your ACT composite is 28, which is on the low end. What’s your current GPA? If it’s also on the low end of the scale I’d consider them a reach.

It’s great if you can get all A’s your senior year, but if your GPA is low now you haven’t been doing that. Unless you can figure out why you haven’t been doing as well as you want and address it, I wouldn’t count on getting all A’s now.

Getting a high GPA senior year would help, but I’m not sure how much. I think the GPA for your app will be calculated using your grades from only the first half of senior year, so you can raise it some but probably not a lot. I don’t think essays, ECs, or LORs make up for low grades or test scores. It would be more helpful if you can retake the ACT and get a 30.

Honestly, my high school years have been shit. I have a 3.03 GPA weighted with numerous honors and APs. I’ve taken honors geometry, chemistry, world civ, spanish 3, spanish 4 and ap history, biology, psych, and econ. I know that the chances are very slim to none but I never know what could happen.

I don’t think knowing the NJ rep will make a big difference. By all means give SUNY-Binghamton a shot, but be sure to focus the majority of your attention on schools that are academic matches for your HS record…

Thanks for everything happy1!!

Bing isn’t a realistic reach but once you’ve applied to two universities you’re sure you can get in and two where your scores are above average, you could apply to Bing just in case.
Possibilities :
Unc Wilmington (@LBad96 was in your situation )
Susquehanna University
U Cincinnati
Ohio Wesleyan

Pace

Do you have budget constraints?

No I have none but if my family generates a lot of income, will I not get financial aid?

Have you 1) talked budget with your parents. If not 2) run the NPC on a few universities and 3) bring them the results, then start talking. They need to give you a number so that you can narrow your search based on finances.
Financial aid depends on the type of college (do they meet need or not?), your efc, and for css profile schools, income + assets.
Google ‘calculate efc’ and do so. Then, ask our parents if they can pay your efc.) often, they can’t.) and MOST universities expect more than the efc.
There’s also merit aid but I don’t think you’d qualify at many places due to GPA. (you Could qualify at some universities such as Slippery Rock but not sure puns want to go there.)

I wholeheartedly second the recommendations of UNCW and Christopher Newport. Pace would be a joke of an admit for OP.
