Hi,
I'm a senior in high school was accepted to both SUNY Binghamton and SUNY Albany for next fall.

I've heard a lot of people say Binghamton is better, but are there any advantages to SUNY Albany that Binghamton lacks?

What are the strengths and weaknesses of each school?

What are some differences between:
1. Student body
2. Academics, professors
3. Social life, partying - I want to go to the school with less partying
4. Diversity - I want a school that is diverse and one that students care about diversity

Thanks!

Most people would lean towards Binghamton. Albany is better if you want to get internships during the school year, especially in state government, but in other things as well, because it is a larger city. A lot depends on what your priorities are.

My sense of albany’s student body is mixed. I’ve visited friends there a few times, and wasn’t impressed

Binghamton is higher ranked. Of course, the professors differ based on your major.

While there’s a healthy party scene in Bing, Albany constantly gets ranked as top 10 party schools in the country. Take from that what you will

I think both schools are quite diverse. There’s a little hubbabaloo at Bing about its lack of diversity, but my sense is the campus is very diverse.

My choice would be Bing.

If you are a big sports fan go to UAlbany. Both men’s and women’s basketball teams are going to the NCAA tournament. If you don’t care about sports I believe Bing. Is a better school.

Thanks for everyone who replied!
for themandotcom;
What do you mean when you said, “My sense of albany’s student body is mixed. I’ve visited friends there a few times, and wasn’t impressed”? Could you expand on it?

Based on everything that you’ve said, I think that for you Albany is a better choice for you if you get a spot in the honors college. There is designated housing for members of the honors college with a good working environment so you will have a good environment for sleeping and studying etc. That being said, Bing may be a better choice for you if you are living in normal housing. Albany has a bit of a reputation

thanks for the links oldmom4896!

sarahroffo, what do you mean by, “Albany has bit of a reputation”?
