I have been accepted as a transfer to both institutions. I am a NYS resident so Binghamton will be very cheap. Emory will be about 40k more than Binghamton. My questions are: (1) Is Emory worth the extra 40k? (2) If this was your decision, where would you go? I don't know much about Emory but it is ranked #20 by U.S News. I was also accepted to Wake Forest.

Thanks

Not if the $40,000 a year is in loans. Also, if you don’t know much about Emory why did you apply and it certainly can’t be worth the difference on one magazine ranking alone. Do you know more about the other schools than Emory? Unless I had the money just to spend on it, I would go to Binghamton and get the most out of it.

^ Concur with Sadilly.

I would not be taking out any loans for Emory.

What do you want to study? Emory is especially strong for premed (top hospitals, CDC basically on campus). The Goizueta Business School at Emory is also very good.

They have different environments. Emory has a gorgeous campus on the outskirts of Atlanta. It is in a large metro area and the campus is close to areas like Virginia Highlands, Little 5 Points and Decatur with good restaurants and nightlife and Midtown Atlanta and Buckhead also not far.

Binghamton is more rural and the campus while fine isn’t as impressive as Emory’s.

Lots of New Yorkers at both schools.

The answer depends to a great deal on your family’s financial situation. If you can’t afford Emory – Binghamton is a fine school!!

If it would cause a severe hardship either as to quality of life, retirement, ability to go to grad school or ability of other siblings to go to college or grad school – Binghamton is a fine school!!!

If you are considering a specific major where Binghamton is strong and Emory is weak. Binghamton is a fine school!!!

Otherwise, Emory is a MUCH better school. Personally,if I had the financial means I would pay the difference for my child to go to either Emory or Wake Forest. If I could pay some and the remainder did not result in oppressive loans, I would strongly recommend either for my child.

I agree ^^ I am from Binghamton, and it really does suck out here, its one of the most depressing (#5 according to Business Insider) and fattest cities (#2 according to msnbc) so honestly i’d go with ANYWHERE but Binghamton.

Thank you all for your responses. I am currently undecided as to my major. If I went to Emory, I would most likely have to split grad school costs with my parents. I will not be doing Pre Med but Business is an option. Its an extremely tough decision because I feel like Emory can offer so much and has a powerful national reputation. Binghamton is also a great school but much less known nationally. I am really looking for the best institution to get on a path for success in whatever career I choose. At Binghamton, I would have money saved up for my future. If I go to Emory, that money is invested in my education.
