If you want a great career, it’ll be hard to do so with any major at SUNY or an International Business degree from anywhere. For international business, you should just major in something that’s an actual skill (finance, accounting, etc.), maybe double major in a foreign language, and ask for an international office when you’re negotiating the offer you got because you had a useable major. Once you’ve chosen what type of business skill you actually want to do internationally, check out the US News rankings for it and try to go to the highest one you can get in to. That’s your best shot at having a great career after college.

An international business is not meaningful on its own. The best programs will make you double major in another business study so that your international business major will “internationalize” your primary major. The advertising/PR/journalism minor will help you in a general sense, but will not secure you a job.

When looking at schools, you should probably look at the best schools in international business so that you have a shot at a career in the field. Recruiters will generally look only at the top schools for international business students, because the major itself does not give you any marketable skills.

I would probably apply to a few out-of-state schools if you can afford them rather than settling on SUNY-Buffalo. University of South Carolina is #1 in International Business, top 10 in several other business majors, and has one of the best journalism programs in the country. Similarly, The University of Texas is fantastic in international business and journalism and Austin is just an amazing place to go to college (trust me). I would also look at the University of Michigan and Georgetown University (based on your financial situation and test scores).

The schools I mentioned are leaders in international business and journalism. You really can’t go wrong with any of them. Hope that helps.
