SUNY Buffalo or SUNY Geneseo?

I've been accepted to both but cannot decide which one. Personally I prefer Geneseo since I don't mind the small town setting and really like the personal contact with professors. But since I will be an accounting major in the business school, being in the middle of nowhere doesn't seem to be a clever choice for future career development. In addition, although Geneseo does appear to give a solid undergraduate business program (it is the most selective among all SUNYs), it's not even ranked anywhere and is very little known by people outside of New York State. Although Buffalo is a bit too big for my liking and seems to offer a very typcial big school education, it is much better known nationally/internationally, and it does have a decent business school. In addition, despite the fact that the city of Buffalo has long lost its former glory, it does seem to possess a bit more cultural diversity than Geneseo.

Can anyone give me some advise? I have to decide fairly quickly. Any additional information on these two schools will also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Geneseo has an excellent business program. I have answered similar questions before. Go to the Geneseo page on this site.

I vote Geneseo even though I would never go there (I’ve always lived in a small place and I am going to the city for college because I need a change).

Were you invited to join the Honors College at Buffalo? If so, that might be one strategy to making a large school smaller. Geneseo is a strong school and I’m sure has internship opportunities for business majors that would help alleviate your concerns about networking and career development. With those two – very different – choices, you really can’t go wrong. Congratulations and good luck as you make your decision.
