SUNY Cornell?

Does anyone know anything about the SUNY classes that are offered at Cornell? I've heard of it, but I can't find much about it.

Any information relating to pre-med would be extremely helpful =D

I think this is what you are referring to:

<a href="http://www.cals.cornell.edu/%5B/url%5D">http://www.cals.cornell.edu/</a>
and
<a href="http://www.human.cornell.edu/%5B/url%5D">http://www.human.cornell.edu/</a></p>

Oy! not again. Cornell is the land grant college in NYS. (read your history- Morrell Act 1862 (?) ) It is not SUNY.
but- the 3 UG state contract colleges at Cornell are: Industrial Labor Relations--Human Ec. and College of Ag. and Life Sciences (CALS).
My d is in the ILR program. The tuition for NYS residents for these 3 schools is about $18,000. I only wish it were SUNY tuition.

Are you interested in any particular program?? ILR may be more geared towards kids interested in social sciences
CALS is more science based
and Human Ec is a mixed bag

I'll try to answer some of your questions.
The Cornell website has a nice explaination of the role of Cornell to the people of NY State.

sorry it took me so long to reply, i wasn't e-mailed that there had been any responses. i'll check that setting now.

the only reason i would be interested in suny is because my dad is in the militia and i go to suny for free. i am in the top 10% in my school and i think i would be able to get into higher level schools but since my parents recently got divorced, money is tight. besides any "free" college is worth looking into. especially if i make it into med school after. i might as well save my money when i can.

"the only reason i would be interested in suny is because my dad is in the militia and i go to suny for free. i am in the top 10% in my"

yea...i don't think you'll be going to the contract colleges of cornell for "free."
there is a difference between the State University of New York at Stonybrook and the NYS School of Industrial and Labor Relations of Cornell.

Hi. Under pressure-- I do believe that there are reduced tuition rates for military children at State universities but I do not know whether the Cornell contract colleges fall into that category- though it is certainly worth an inquiry. I do not think anyone on these boards can give you an accurate answer unless they too are in the military.

other little known SUNY programs are
SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) housed in Syracuse University. Good for sciences. You live on Syracuse U campus and can take courses in State ESF program and also can take courses from Syracuse U. Check the website- I think you can definitely do a science/pre-med type of major at ESF.

and another SUNY progam is at Alfred University (don't confuse with SUNY Alfred Technical school) in the College of Ceramics. I don't quite get it but College of ceramics is connected to engineering / science program at Alfred.

Though you may be entitled to reduced tuition, my guess is you still need to meet regular admission standards at Cornell- so good luck with the application and admission process. My kid is now a senior in ILR.

I'm a typical NY Mom who likes a bargain- so I am aware of certain programs in NYS that fit the bill!! I hope I gave you some info on other SUNY programs to check out.
Don't overlook Stony Brook- Bing or Buffalo. They would certainly give you a good foundation towards medical school.

also- did you check out Sophie Davis (?) program at CUNY? I think that is a 7 or 8 year program with automatic acceptance to Medical school.
Do not know much about it- but check CUNY site for details!!

Apply to the best colleges and universities for which you qualify. Financial aid at many schools can be quite generous.

yeah i still need to find out where i could inquire about the whole reduced tuition idea. because my dad knows basically nothing and my guidance councellor at school is absolutely no help.

i am definitely looking at bing right now because its a good school and a good distance away from home at a lower price (being suny). i'm also not really interested in stonybrook because my uncle lives right down the block and i have a few reasons to distance myself from my family, at least for a while.

i never heard of the Sophie Davis program, so thank you for that information. i will definitely look into it =)

although i am still leaning towards a premed program, i am also looking into psychology/sociology. i'm basically just trying to keep my options open and look into as many possibilities as possible.

sorry for the huge delay in replies, for some reason the site refuses to send me notifications when someone posts a response, even though i have the email notification selected.

ok i have finally figured out that i have to subscribe to this thread, even though i created it. so i should be much quicker in my response time =)
