Suny Cortland or Suny Oneonta

I am graduating my two year school this year and need to make yet another college decision. I have narrowed it down to Cortland or Oneonta anyone that can help me or give me some input would be great!

It really depends on your program. If you’re considering teaching, I’d definitely go with Cortland. I’ll also add that I go to Ithaca and I’ve made way more great friends at Cortland than I have made here, and all of my friends that go there seem pretty happy with the school. I really can’t say anything about Oneonta, though.

D is a junior at Cortland and is a sport management major. Both Cortland and Oneonta are great for teaching as are most of the SUNY colleges. Cortland has a bit of a jock reputation. It’s particularly known for sport management, phys ed, athletic training- but it also has solid departments throughout the school.
My d was also accepted to Oneonta. To me it’s a more well rounded environment as I don’t think it has a dominant campus culture like Cortland/sports.
BTW, I hear either Cortland or Cornell may have the Jets training camp this summer. It would be a real boost to the Cortland economy, so I’m rooting for them to get it.

Both campuses are very picturesque. I think I liked the oneonta campus a bit more, but for sport management, cortland was the obvious choice. Cortland is also a bit less isolated than oneonta. As it is on a major highway, it is a real quick trip to syracuse, binghamton or ithaca.

what are you planning to major in? That might be a factor in your decision.

and to my delight, my kid is really happy with cortland.

I am majoring in Birth through sixth grade education

I think for education, both schools are comparable. I would suggest you visit both campuses and see what feels best. Suny colleges have always had a very good reputation in the field of education.
