Riggggght on! So, I'm pretty much a pessimist and I have these thoughts where I envision myself as Bartleby from 'Accepted', the movie.

[li] I'm not limited to these schools. If anyone has any suggestions, that'd be a great help. I'm looking, mostly, for a college that has my intended undergraduate major. Distance from home is also a very important factor, my parents and I have decided. I would like to dorm, if possible, but, again, if I get deferred from my top choices, I'll have to stay home for college. And who wants that? (Okay, fine, not everyone, but you get the point.)[/ul]
[/li]

Yes, I know. I am way too involved, but I prefer extra curriculars over schoolwork. :(

Hmmm…well i’m not too familiar with CUNY but i’ll try to chance the SUNY schools and Syracuse since I know some friends who were accepted to those and I applied to Albany myself.

SUNY Albany-safety
SUNY Buffalo-match
Syracuse University-match

Your SAT scores are a little low for most of the schools I listed but that’s the only weak point I see. Your EC’s looks pretty good and your GPA isn’t bad either. They could be higher but it seems sufficient enough that you should have a good shot.

Is there any way you can retake the SAT or take your ACT again? I think if you can raise the standardized test scores it would help a lot. I had a friend with very few ECs and a similar average get into SUNY Albany but he had somewhere around an 1800/2400 on the SATs. It’s one of the less selective SUNY schools from my experience.

Buffalo’s stats on collegeboard make it seem like a manageable school, I think you would get in but most of the kids I know going into that school were quite studious including our valedictorian so you might be up against a little bit of competition. However I would not let that discourage you and I think you have a very fair shot at it.

Another school you could consider which seems to be similar to Buffalo being a big SUNY University is SUNY Stony Brook, it might be worth looking into if you’re interested.

Syracuse I know the least about but only that it’s within your range and I know a number of kids who got in there.

Well I really hope it all works out and wish you the best of luck and also take most of what I say with a grain of salt. That’s the info. I got from my own experience senior year but the admissions process has a bit gray area and you never quite know for sure. So always have some hope and keep in mind you seem to have a pretty good list of schools.

Thanks a lot! Haha, I was thinking about Stony Brook, but I heard that it was pretty tough to get into. And I am planning on retaking the SAT again in October, and I’m expecting my G.P.A to improve, but not substantially so.

How about a bump?

i spy a bump!

Your welcome, though I honestly think you have a decent shot at Stony Brook. Your GPA shouldn’t be a huge problem for most SUNY schools especially if you can raise it just a tad bit. I got by with a 3.3, not great but paired with other stuff like my SAT score and ECs it worked out.

If you can raise the SAT score in October a substantial amount with enough studying I think you’d be in a good position for places like Stony Brook, as well as the other schools I chances before.

Thanks again. And I’ll definitely try, though, Stony Brook doesn’t offer the major I’m interested in. I was also thinking of pursuing ED for Syracuse. Would that be a wise idea? And any other opinions?
