Their program looks VERY interesting. Can anyone here tell me more about it? good/bad? Is there an ability to dual major or major/minor (writing)? How about the academics in general at the school?

realjoy, I don’t recall SUNY Fredonia being discussed here very much for a Theatre major. It’s known as a very good option for studying music. One thing I can tell you is that it is a fairly remote campus and if you don’t love winter weather, you’ll likely be unhappy in Fredonia! :)

Hi alwaysamom :)

I know it’s not discussed here much, that is why I just found out about it. But after reading their site, I am intrigued. They offer a BFA in Acting, which is really nice and they also offer a minor in Writing, which is what she wants. I would just like to hear from anyone who might have first hand experience with the program and school itself. As far as weather, it will be a HUGE challenge for her (the school is for my daughter). She has lived in the desert her whole life LOL. But, she wants a change and wants to go to school in New York, or in that general area of the country (she’s made lots of trips up there, just never in winter! ha!) But she says she won’t mind the snow and cold. We’ll see :)

Sounds like your D has the same interests that mine did, with both acting and writing. I hope someone can help you with more information about the program. Has she actually visited Fredonia? As I said, it is in a very small town that is quite remote from anything else. Buffalo would be the closest city of any size and that is at least an hour away. I don’t usually warn people about winter weather. We live in Toronto so are used to it but Fredonia is another story altogether. It gets the lake effect snow off Lake Erie so travel can be a real issue for the winter months.

We haven’t visited any of the schools out East, except for Muhlenberg. We are in Arizona, so it’s really difficult to visit. If she gets accepted, we will probably go then before making a decision. My husband (her stepfather) is from New York, and knows about the lake effect thing. However, we’ve only lived in Phoenix, so she has no clue how bad it will get. We have told her, but she says she doesn’t care lol. We’re also looking at SUNY Buffalo U, Geneseo and Oswego, but it looks like all but Geneseo are on the lakes! It is near the finger lakes, which my daughter visited last summer and LOVED. It is so hard doing this long distance!!

Did your daughter continue with writing and acting? Which school did/does she attend?
