SUNY Maritime looks like the lowest cost NYS School that offers Engineering. Does anyone have any experience with their NON-Regiment PGMs? Its seems geared for you to join their Regiment to get the best opportunities and perhaps non-reg students would be the outsiders. They do seem to show some great salary potential #s for Graduates there.

Please share any experiences you have with this school.

We did a tour of SUNY Maritime last fall and the staff went out of their way to emphasize that “civilian students” are fully integrated into the academic life at the school. Moreover, many student activities are intended to provide social opportunities for the regiment students and civilians alike.

That being said, Maritime is a tough place academically for all. It’s not easy. 18 hours of class a semester is the norm and a summer internship is required for civilian students (since they won’t be on the summer cruise with the regiment). What field of engineering interests you? We were impressed by the Mechanical Engineering Department, which is led by a Dean who earned his PhD at M.I.T.
