I've searched your forums here, and have discovered that each SUNY school has its own 'unspoken specialty'. However, I've not found any information that would suggest which one a math major would look to go to. I've heard of the 'Potsdam Miracle' and all, so I assumed that Potsdam would be near the top, but then I've read here that it's mainly a musical school. Binghamton, I hear, is rated one of the best, but, again, is the math program there all that good?

I'm hoping to get a dual major in math\math ed. and then go on to graduate school for math.

Hmm, Stony Brook is quite a distance. (I live in Buffalo.) It’s also near NYC…I’ve never been fond of larger cities…

What would be a ‘second’ best? (Or, would a degree from Potsdam not be as rigorous as Stony Brook? What, exactly, makes one better than the other?)

If it helps, I was thinking of applying to Binghamton, SUNY Buffalo, Potsdam, and Geneseo. Should I add\subtract anything?

I mean, I have a ~96 average, 29 ACT\1920 SAT, have taken 2 AP’s (Recieved 4 and 5), will take 5 more this year, and take whatever art classes I can. I know my record isn’t super (I have very few EC’s), but should I be trying for something better than Potsdam? I really love the area (I’ve vacationed there. Absolutely beautiful.), but my scores seem to be a bit above their admissions data. What do you think?

I would recommend looking at Stony Brook, Binghamton, UB and Albany

The admissions summary will give you some idea as to where you should fall. If you are not applying to EOP or Honors, I would recommend that you submit your application asap, including your supplements. With the exception of Stony Brook, which will give you an on-line ID to access their supplement, you should be able to start the rest of your supplements.
