<p>New Paltz is definitely my number one school but I feel like there's a 50/50 shot of me getting in. If I don't, I'm definitely going to try to transfer after my first year somewhere else. So, A) Could you "chance" me and B) If you go or anyone you know goes to New Paltz, how do you all like it?</p>

<p>Senior,F,Long Island</p>

<p>GPA- around 87
1 AP Sophmore year, 2 AP's and college class Junior year, 2 AP's and 2 college classes Senior year. Everything else is advanced/honors, except for math (my weak point). </p>

<p>SAT- 1710/1090...retaking
ACT-25</p>

<p>Extracurricular- Mock Trial Team (won an award in a school-wide)</p>

<p>That's pretty much it :/</p>

<p>Don’t worry too much about the GPA, it’s way overblown. Your SAT and ACT scores need to be higher though. My son had an 84 avg. and 1300 SAT and 30 ACT and was accepted last year. It also depends on what you tell them you want to major in. It can be easier if it’s computer science or engineering as I don’t think they get as many applicants in those fields. Can’t hurt to apply…the worst they can do is say no!</p>

<p>You’re GPA and ACT score are within their range. Retake the ACT and earn a higher composite in order to increase your chances. As of now, your ACT 25 puts you right at their 50% range of accepted students. </p>

<p>With your current stats, you have a chance, but the decision could easily go either way.</p>

<p>bextreme1 – I think the OP is correct in judging his chances to be about 50/50 at this time. Her 87 average puts her at about the 35% percentile of admitted students, and as nysmile noted her ACT score is at the mid-point. Fortunately, she has taken a reasonably rigorous schedule of courses and that will work in her favor. If she works hard on bringing her senior grades up and improves her test scores she’ll stand a much better chance.</p>

<p>Your son had an ACT score that was in the top 4% of his NP class. That helped a lot in off-setting his 15th percentile (approx) GPA. I’m guessing he might have challenged himself with some demanding math and science courses in high school also?</p>

<p>Also, the male/female ratio of students is heavily female, so it is reasonable to understand that a male applicant with a lower GPA stands to gain admission more readily than a female applicant.</p>
